There are several members who have gone well beyond ten dollars Juan ... and I think you know one of them very well!
It's past midnight here so I may have to bid all you incredible people 'good night' and see you for a coffe in the morning before I make that happy phone call to place my order.
Once again ... how can I thank you all enough ... words are barely sufficient.![]()
Let's hope tomorrow we'll have the final round, Keith... Until then.
Cheers,
Juan

Nice to meet you!

I was like, "WTF?" I read your comment as referring to being on the forum, but now I understand you mean this thread.

I hear you, Keith. The past three years have been incredibly tough for me, too, so I just want you to know that if it weren't for those difficult circmustances, I'd be pitching in as well.I've just got home from the shops to discover a PM from Juan and a link to this thread and I really don't know quite what to say ... except that the quality of the people at this site never fails to absolutely stun me. Maybe it's the rangefinder thing that attracts souls who are a little different to the rest because a lot of the amazing generosity and kindness I see here is missing in other forums I've visited.
Of course I want an X100 ... who doesn't but financially I have no hope at the moment and have actually sold gear over the last few months to keep a roof over my head and food on the table. Several cameras, some lenses and my beloved Vespa have gone by the way to achieve this. I had a reasonably lucrative one day a week job that along with the occasional paid gig photographing gallery openings was keeping me afloat but unfortunately the part time job evaporated last year and the money I get from the infrequent photography work is way short of what a person can live on. You have to do what you have to do to survive in this world and I'm optomistic enough to think that if I tighten my belt and ride the situation out things will improve. There are people around a lot worse off than myself ... you only have to open your eyes and look around to realise this.
I can only accept such generosity on this condition ... and that is that this camera cannot be sold by me. If circumstances arise that prevent me from using the camera or I just plain don't want it ... it would have to go to another forum member in need who may also be struggling with money and life generally. I'm very serious about this committment and only see it as being fair.
Juan ... you're an amazing guy to think of doing such a thing for another person on the other side of the world and even if it doesn't come to fruition financially I'll have been deeply affected by it's inception and the basic goodness of my fellow human beings. Particularly the ones who inhabit this incredible forum.
Keith.

Ten bucks is really a small price to pay . Had Keith been a "photographic consultant ", well he shairs for free. Anyway, SWMBO informs me that random acts of kindness are good for this crusty old geaser. Juan, please g-mail me how to do this paypal thing. Red

Just kiddingYou gotta remember that English is not Juan's native language, and by "If you don't know him, maybe you have little to do here..." he means "if you don't know him, you probably don't spend much time here".

We're doing it transferring funds from paypal account to paypal account:
When you're registered on Paypal, you (all of us) have an ID (your "paypal name": it's an email address you already set when you registered) and paypal already knows from which of your accounts you want them to take the money (you set that too on registry)... Once you go into Paypal's page anytime, you just click send money, and you'll be asked about the ID (member's Paypal "name": email address) you want them to give your money to... It takes less than one minute if you're already registered... If not, it doesn't take too long to register...
Cheers,
Juan

Done. Brilliant idea, Juan!
Keith, I totally would buy you a beer or two or three (even a Foster's if you must
) but the chances of that ever happening in person are close to zero. Thanks for sharing your creativity, out of the box thinking, and dry wit on this forum. Better times!

Well, where are those members who buy every new summilux aspherical? You can help this get finished quickly: $10 is not the limit in any way! Indeed we know 10 is a small number you never heard of!
Cheers,
Juan
I think the 10$ bill is just enough - it will give more members the chance to send their regards to Keith so I wouldn't push it too far. If he is short at the end (even I don't believe it) we'll all go for another round, right?
Regards,
b.

So, it's now at about $700: 50 more people can send money from now on, more or less...
Thanks everybody! Keith will wake up tomorrow and the gift will be almost wrapped...
