hah is that stupid? I felt it on an M8 and seemed to just "feel" right. I had a feeling it wasn't "kosher"...guess i'm showing my newbie-ness 😱

hah thanks buzzard, it does feel better than the lever, although i get what Shyoon's saying too. Going to have to just try it out and see.

Very excited about the 35mm, although im in the market for a smaller lens for more portability. I'm thinking the cv 50 f/1.5 if i get my hands on one.

Anybody is free to use whatever accessary on their camera - even taping a wooden stick to it might improve hold-ability for some - which would be completely valid.

Personally, I think, you loose the major advantage from that old style advance lever by adding a thumbs up.
It is designed, to be easy to wound in one fluid move from completely collapsed.
I love that aspect about the MP, I shoot since recently. I definitely will upgrade my other "plastic tippy" film bodies to the same "old style" advance lever.

I shoot Leica bodies without grips and other accessories for hours (with heavy lenses) without issues.
An easy trick, to easy load on a cramped hand is, to hold the camera close to your belly, having it's full weight rested inside your hand, cradling it - no crampy fingers.

I seldom use flash on my Leica, but sometimes it's unavoidable. Instances when I only have slow film available and don't want motion blurs or want some additional fill light. This unit is small enough to put in the corner of my bag and forget about it.

I just got this m7 from RFF. I bought it to replace my m6 and m3. Why do I need two cameras? AE is for me!?

Now I am having a hard time putting my m3 and m6 up for sale. The m7 feels different. The winding seemed not as smooth, but after putting film in, the winding is less "noisy" in my hands. Seems much smoother. Last night, I was set on selling the m7 after our short time together. Now I am back to keeping it.

PS: I held an m9 in my hands today. Tested it with the Nokton 50mm 1.1 they also had in the case. $5500 at the local camera store. I should not have done that.

m9 for $5500 at a store is a good price, depending on its condition and all. Definitely shouldn't have done that!

Helen, according to Chester Sartorius "Identifying Leica Cameras" you have a
"very rare camera" (RR). It falls in a range of M4 Black Chrome produced in Canada SN 1381651-1382600 (1974). Yours looks to be SN 1382596 (?) which is the 4th to the very last of that batch of Black Chrome Canadian Leica Cameras. WOW 🙂

I have only seen one other from this batch in all of my 42 years of collecting and using Leica Cameras.

BTW---I have her sister SN 1381846. I purchased it in 1980. It is LN in the org. box with all the org. papers.

I know you like to trade (buy and sell) Leica cameras and lenses, but this is one Leica you should hold on to. Please don't sell her. I don't know where you found her, but a rare find indeed !.

I know you are proud of her, and are anxious to take great pictures. There is a great picture yet to be taken in your new beauty. Enjoy 😉
