Let's see your Leica M

Looking a bit nerdy with the oversize glasses, but I love it!

Can this old leather strap handle all this weight ? I would be concerned about a sudden failure.

I hardly ever use it to support the entire weight of the camera, preferring to either have the camera in my hand, or in the bag. The condition of the leather would be a concern if I did though. I'm honestly more concerned about the lugs, which are pretty worn!

Nice Kit Dave

I thought the very same thing seeing the lugs. My M4 went to Solms with lugs slightly less thin than that and Leica replaced them.

It'll blow out if you're not careful!

It'll blow out if you're not careful!

Good to know. Thanks!

I was blowing off dust on my LHSA M6 about 10 years ago, using a compressor with a nozzle. Soon as I was done, I noticed that plug was missing. It blew out and away. Covered the hold with step until I could get another one from Sherry.

Yes, Aki Asahi's 4034 leatherette is lovely. It's a shame it isn't produced anymore. It used to have Aki Asahi's 4008 on it (finer grain), which is also lovely.
...

Now Aki-Asahi has 4044 available (so it seems). Has anyone tried this yet? Available are 4008, 4040 and 4044. Unfortunately Aki does not show examples.

Erik.

Interesting. Wonder if it's closer to the 4034. If so I may have to replace the 4008 I currently have on my MP with it! Much preferred the 4034 I had on my M9.

The best cover I have seen is the premium calfskin stuff from Cameraleather. It was an exercise in frustration getting it delivered, as I grumbled about in an earlier post, but the finish is gorgeous and as expected the diecutting was precisely right.

And it smells great, too.

Cheers,
Dez

Thank you, David, I could not find these images.

I think however that 4044 will be not be very nice looking on a Leica M, not nearly as nice as 4034 on JHP's MP.

Erik.

I really like your modified M4. It looks so much better with the older levers, doesn't it?

The best camera Leica never made. But who knows, maybe they'll come out with exactly this next year as a special limited edition priced at $5000, and called something like MP-4. I can only hope.

Cheers,
Dez
