Absolutely. My M5 had a host of problems so I passed it on to someone willing to fix it up, but I do miss it and hope to have another eventually.

This M5 rules Supreme, I was Lucky
recently serviced by Leica, it is truly smooth to Use and Fondle 😉
has taken away all Lust, G.A.S. !

have to Laugh over 'chunky monkey' ... My husband was a Leo Monkey and our little rescue dog Iggy turned out to be a Leo monkey
hah, To your M5 monkeyhood, mine will be a chunky monkey too !

"Chunky Monkey" reminds me of a trip to Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory and a story during the factory tour, of that flavor (Chunky Monkey), when introduced in the far east. They had to change the name as, converted to Japanese literally, meant, "Chunks of Monkey"....

Black paint M4 w LLL black paint over brass lens. (many of the original V1 Summicrons were black paint over aluminum & are still rare & high priced)

I'm not sure. This one has been in use since '68 & came to me a couple of years ago in this condition. At one time it was sold at the Cameramate Store in Prague, and I got it from RFF member Brooktaw here in Western Canada. I'm pretty sure the wear predates the sandpaper relic crew. I suspect this one was used quite a bit with an MR-4 Meter. DAG did the modification for the Leicavit and has her working like a charm....good for another 50 years. I'm glad it wasn't one of those glass case queens. The black paint M2 I used to have was more worn than this one.

That's how it was when it came to me and the battle scars all looked honestly earnt. I suspect it was a working press camera for part of its previous life and liked to imagine that one day an illustrious prior user would be discovered!

Thanks for the additional info Chris.(BTW Thanks again for the camera...it's getting used) I've used new black paint Leicas and Nikons long enough for them to wear. I agree with you. They usually live in a bag with no dividers, and lenses rolling around the bottom. On the other hand you have this kind of unnatural thing....

Just this week I was lucky to find an M4 with collapsible Summicron for a very good price (under US$900). I already have a nice M2 and wasn't looking for another M...

It has a few small dings on the top plate but otherwise looks and feels good. I carried out my meticulous cleaning routine on the body and lens, adjusted the rangefinder and there's a new leatherette cover for it coming from Aki-Asahi.

The "L" seal instead has a "D", does anyone know who that may be? DAG?

Also, the Summicron coating on the front element is fairly worn, can anyone explain how photos may look with this deterioration, or point to me to threads with examples?
