Let's see your Leica M

Chris,
The Alpa 7 was my first too. I had other later models but still find only the 7B and 8B could beat it with the advance levers. To use the range finder, I have to hold it vertically with the left (range finder windows) side up.
What a bargain you had even considering it was in '71. with a Dalmeyer too!

:)The halcyon days before the 'net when bargains could be sniffed out. The Alpa was a very niche product in the UK and in the 70's very out of fashion. My 7 has the rewind lever fitted although my other, a 6, does not.

For a brief moment, I was in Leica heaven :)

M7 is gone as a trade for the MP. Now, I think the M6 TTL is on the chopping block as I cannot justify keeping both the MP and the M6 (can someone convince me otherwise :) )

You don't need both of them unless your a collector. Let the M6 go I say.........

EDIT: You're from Australia too! Do you know how hard it is to find Leica Ms here! ;)

Well, if I had the money, I would take the M6. But my 5 years old notebook computer just died and I had to buy a new one these days. *outch*

Wow, you have raised the bar again. Beautiful and wonderfully obscure kit. You'll use the 65mm lens, correct? Enjoy!

Thanks, I believe this was used on microscopes, etc. I would like to use a lens on it that focuses to infinity. I believe the 65 elmar was made for the shorter Viso II and III. This one has an optical depth of 62.5 mm, whereas the II and III have 40 mm. It's regular LTM and any LTM lens fits with a short LTM to LTM adapter to leave the mirror free for collapsing. However, regular lenses become very macro'ish. I tried the Hektor 135 mm lens unit, but I need another adapter for it. The lens head isn't LTM, unfortunately. Anybody having suggestions for what to look out for?

BTW, that revolver in the Visoflex is very nice. It's got a clear glass that shows the whole scene as through a binocular, very bright!. The ground glass allows precise focusing. The visoflex can be turned counter clockwise on the body 90 degrees for portrait shots. Leica's genius who developed this thing made sure that the revolver at the same time turns 90 degrees clockwise so that it doesn't come in contact with the body. Hard to explain, but wonderful to see it happen. This is an extremely cleverly developed piece of equipment!

My third M (M3, M4)

Nice new M7, John. I however, have gone in the opposite direction. A couple weeks ago I sold my M6 TTL (hardly used it) and immediately picked up an M3. Here it's pictured with my 50/2.8 Elmar-M, but lately it's been using it with a 1946 coated Summitar. I just ordered some new skin from cameraleather. This chrome puppy will soon be sporting a new cobalt blue jacket. :D

And my MP just got a new grip on life. An old-style ML-GRIP at an "old-style" price. :D

Marke, your grip looks slippery...

Oh, how I like the look of Elmar-M... Why don't you use uv filter, or shade for protecting it?..

Nugard, I haven't found the grip to be slippery, although I'm comparing it to trying to hold an MP with the slippery factory (sharkskin?) covering. And even the surface on this grip seems to have more grip than what it would appear to have. OTOH, my hands rarely sweat, so that might be a factor for some people. I've been wanting to try a grip out, ANY kind of grip, but I didn't want to invest in a $100+ item that I wasn't sure I would like. So far, this grip is well worth it. I'm actually able to shoot one-handed.

As far as protecting my Elmar goes, I almost always keep a slip-on cap installed, except when I'm actually shooting. I can't see keeping the shade on all the time, as the lens then becomes about as long as a Summicron. The shade stays in my bag, and is only used when the shooting conditions warrant it. And the only lens that I might keep a uv filter on (at times) is my 50/1.4 Summilux.

I recently picked up a beautiful Elmar 50/2.8 LTM from another RFF member (thanks, Ty!), which seems a good excuse to show off my M2, all dressed up and waiting to go out...

New this week: Luigi case, Canon 50 1.4, Thumbs Up 3, and TA Softrelease. Much better grip with my child-sized hands with these new goodies. Love the Canon, too.

Other lens is a current series 28 2.8 Elmarit.

Flipo, that's a nice set-up you have there. The M6 should serve you well, and that lens is a great choice.

By the way, the leather protector tabs on your camera strap aren't installed correctly. If you remove the rings, then while holding the tab's hole over the camera ear, reinstall the ring, it should come together just fine. The way they are now just aren't allowing them to do their job on protecting the camera from abrasion from the rings.
