The Soft-Release makes a difference. Some here don't like them, but for those who do like them, they make a difference. I have one on both my M's and they're great.

i believe its user added after market, as i had a search around before and was informed again and again that they only came in plastic, so i assume it was originally broken at some point.

The 35 is my favorite lens on the M7 and the M9 … yes the M9 … somehow it is luring still ;-)
