I prefer wrapping the neck strap around my wrist as it's connected to both lugs. If the lug your wrist strap is attached to breaks your expensive gear is only held by you.

Get a Gordy's wrist strap with the tripod screw-mount. :)

I also though sometimes wrap the neck strap around my R-d1 when shooting it solo. I carry two usually though (R-d1 and M6). I have the R-d1 with a neck strap, and the M6 with the gordy. The gordy i really like, it cinches around my wrist for added safety, and is the perfect length to actually lean (or crank) on it to really get tension, which gives me added stability. I'll have to post a picture sometime.

Anyway, the wrist strap is far from just an aesethic accessory. In fact, it is quite the opposite. It leaves the camera in my hand ready to shoot at all times, and comfortably when resting. My second body around my neck if I was shooting with both.

Here's my M2 -- Gerry Smith made it smooth as silk. M2 and the 35 Cron ASPH, the best of old and new.
Cheers,
Jim

Here is my Leica M outfit. The M6 was bought new in 1986 and the 35mm 'cron v4 bought used about the same time. The Tele-Elmarit is a recent addition, bought to replace one I sold in 1990, a decision I've regretted ever since :(.

Not a great picture, but here is my MP hanging out with my new (to me) M3.

The M3 has already been sent to Youxin for a CLA and I can't wait to get it back.

David, funny you say that. I want to replace the M3's vulcanite with the sharkskin found on the M8/MP. I know most people don't like it, but I love it.

I don't even know if I can get the sharkskin for the M3. Anybody?
