Let's see your Leica M

My new Black Chrome M4 sporting my trusty 35mm summilux pre-asph with my brass replacement focus tab. Hopefully many years of enjoyment to come.

Second try on a Leica after the M3 did little to thrill me. Think I'll get along better with a 0.72x and some straighter framelines.
This one's off at KEH Repair after the rangefinder arm started sticking, thank goodness for 6-month warranties. Still has the L seal and is otherwise extremely clean, though. Currently pictured with the 1.5 Nokton, considering a Color Skopar 35mm to add to the bunch.

I too received an M3 (800xxx) that had been dropped into the ocean at the beach (not by me!). The owner put the camera on a shelf and never did anything with it. Sea water is not kind to anything with Fe atoms in it.

I received the camera some years later and stripped it down. I revived the shutter mechanism, but not the timing/shutter speeds -- all the springs corroded into brown-orange strings that crumbled to dust when I breathed too heavy. The RF suffered too, but it was possible to look through it after some attention. Unfortunately, the prism silvering was affected and the framelines too. But, I managed to clean and restore so much of the camera, that a donor slow speed module and an RF unit will bring it completely back to life. I found a slow speed donor, but no RF donor.

The old DS M3 was so well built that after I cleaned it up and worked the shutter (wind on), it was so smooth and enjoyable if I had closed my eyes I would have thought it a new, perfect camera. The definition of "buttery smooth" I often read in classified ads for various Ms.

So, I'll put this out there: I'm looking for a donor DS-era M3. Even though I found a slow speed donor, I let it move on so I again need a donor that has a slow speed module and an RF unit. Everything else can be toast 😉. Casually on the hunt....

My slightly modified M6 TTL .85 viewfinder.
My main lens is a Noctilux so I had the 75mm frame lines masked.
And just received a chrome battery cover.
The Leicavit really feels well with large lenses used on an M.

Here is my M3, with which I have purposely embraced the relative imprecision of RF framing by taping out the frameline window and using the excellent Minolta CLE 40mm. The result has been a camera that is a pleasure to use for street photography - small and inoffensive, quick and capable of producing great images.

For anything requiring greater precision, well, that's why I have SLRs.

I have the 35mm Color Skopar....a lovely, tiny sharp lens.
