Looking very nice with the brassing!
Thank you, yes, and the camera is very smooth in use, the smoothest of all my Leicas.

I've always wondered what makes the difference between the early M2s and the later models.... the smoothest of all my Leicas.
Those button-rewind models are so silky smooth in operation if they are maintained accordingly.

You are a brave guy, using that knot to tie off the string![]()
Beware of modern materials for lines and so on; few of them work with old fashioned knots because they are slippery.

You'll notice that Sean Flynn's parachute cord 'strap' was more securely tied...ask any Boy Scout

Simon Congratulations! That is a stunning kit. The paint job looks authentic & aged instead of sparkling & new & the steel-rim 35 is drool-worthy.

Hmmm, I have the camera that Simon shows in my archives for many years. It is not a Shintaro painted camera, but a real 1959 Leitz one, originally chrome but redone in black paint by Leitz in the 1960's. The chrome eyelets are the giveaway.
Erik.
This is the very same camera as on Simons' picture above:

Beautiful cameras. The black M2 I had was in the later 1963-64 serial # range.

Yes. I saw it in the window at the Leica dealer in Paris. Mid 1990s... I paid $700 Canadian dollars / 460 Euro for it... it's the one i regret selling
