Just curious, am I the only MP owner that doesn't totally hate the standard covering?

I am indifferent. I dont hate it or love it. It is fine to for me and I have not found it slippy but then again I have not hadled it whilst wet. Looks like it would be quite a bit more resilient than vulcanite but this is not important conpared to how well it helps you keep hold of the camera.

Its fine as far as I am concerned butcan't say I have done a 'grippiness' test....

Thanks, it's pretty beat up, the vulcanite has been fixed badly in a few places, the black chrome is wearing off in places, and the veiwfinder is a bit foggy. Mechanically, it's perfect. I have another M4-p in very similar condition.

A while back, I sold one mintish chrome M4 and used the money to buy two beater M4-ps. Why? because the M4 was "too perfect" to use without worrying about it. Now I have two cameras that i don't care too much about. One lives with 125 ASA film, the other with Neopan 1600. I'm happy.

Here is my Leica MP BP with 35 Zeiss Biogon. Luigi case.

Quite a looker and very new. New rules make it harder to get out and about in Kabul. Still, people have already asked me why I am using such an antiquated film camera. Coming from Afghanis this is very encouraging. I am looking fwd to having it close to hand wherever I go.

Give the choice, I would have gone for black chrome and matt black lenses; an aesthetic crime but a practical one. The chrome rim of the Ziess lenses is pretty but bright. A matt body plus matt Leica lenses would have ben perfect but a LOT more expensive. Still, I am hardly complaining...

Thanks. I have not gotten round to hoods yet. I am not sure about the bulk. The ZM hoods are pretty big are they not?

The shiny nose is not a big deal really but I might get hoods in any case. Just dont want them to add to bulk when the camera is under a coat. Goodness knows why the Zeiss ones are so expensive. i might look at the CV hoods as I hear there are some that fit ZMs?

the small extra length added by a hood is well worth it i think.
i don't normally wear a camera under a coat but use a small bag and a wrist strap but i have had a metal hood save a crashing camera from heavy damage and they are now a fixture. i don't use lens caps and never take the hoods off.

back alley. I am the same. Caps off. The hoods on my rf645 are great as so small but ensure nothing rubs the front element. I use B&W filters but agree that hoods keep things away. Looking online it appears the 35/50 hood is reasonably big as is the 21/25. The 28 is quite small tho but at $85! Are there not CV bayonet hoods for similar focal lengths that would do the trick for half the money? Otherwise it will be $170 + postage for two hoods!

i'm not sure about the cv hoods, which fits which lens, but i think they are interchangable.

The Voigtlander LH-5 will fit the 50/2 ZM and it should fit the 35/2ZM as well since the two ZM lenses share the same hood. It actually appears to be the exact same hood, one branded Zeiss the other branded Voigtlander. Contact Stephen Gandy, he'll be able to tell you whether it will work for sure on the 35/2 (although I am 99% certain) but I doubt he'll actually admit its the same hood.

i now have 3 of them, one houses a small oly om1 kit, camera with 28/35/50 macro.

one is home to zi with 50/90 and one has the silver zi with 25/35.
