Letter to M9

Having both an M9 and a 5dmk11 I don't really like comparing. But I do think for the money nothing comes close to the 5dmk11. I still use 1dMk111s for work and the 5dmk11 is really just a third body but as said already the 1d is just so much faster than the 5d.
But on the other hand if someone said you can only keep one lens and one body it would have to be M9 and 35mm pre-asph summilux!

I guess some take their relationship with a tool a ...bit too personal :)

My wife still prefers using her 5D than her 5DII. We are looking at the right moment to sell the latter.

I often wonder about the kind of people--like this guy--who kvetch about the M9, and go on about what a lousy camera it is.

Focus issues wide open? Unsteady at 1/60? I never seem to have these problems--maybe ignorance is bliss? (In fact, I can think of a couple of {low-light} situations, where I WISHED I'd had the M9, when my whiz-bang DSLR simply wouldn't focus, and hunted and hunted, causing me to miss shot after shot)

So, dude who wrote the letter, it may just be you, after all. Face it, you're not up there in Ms. Leica's league--she's just too beautiful for you.....

The M9 is a pretty good effort. I wish they'd kept the slow cloth shutter and that there was a 0.85 viewfinder option (it would probably be a 0.81 with the thicker body). I also wish it would take the Summicron DR properly. Still, the M10 should be a belter.

Hi, well it´s all about the AF!

What i would really like to have is the FF video capabilities...

I had a 5d first one, it´s a terrific enormous camera, with the sigma 24-70 f2.8 lens it was unusable in the streets people kept looking at it with growing hunger, no way the m9 drives more attention, once some folk asked me "you´re still using film!!!"

Bye!

A drawback among some people is that there is never a right job, only a right tool.

Cheers,

R.

Haha LoL

Roger,
I love your little quips. They may come close to cutting at times but, now that I recognize your style..... I can see why you have a writing career.

Cheers!

I think it was funny, it's obviously not all that serious and if it is at least he was mildly creative about it. Sometimes I feel a hint of remorse at leaving a contax g2 kit for my m6, but I'd never admit that around either of them.

I have an M9. I complain about it daily. My complaints are about Leica service and a few specific issues with the M9.
However I DON'T complain about the "limitations" inherent to using a rangefinder. I work around them like most of us do.

Sounds like this guy just doesn't know how to use a rangefinder. That's how it reads. Give him an M6 and the same issues will come up. God forbid that Leica M doesn't have a meter!

I can't imagine going on the www and admitting to missing a shot due to having a lens cap in place. This person must also not understand the function of the light meter in the digital Leica, which should be a serious clue that a lens cap is still in place.

Well, I would say that it's happened to most M users who use lens caps at least once in their lives. Sure, the light meter does give you an indictaion, but if it is a fleeting moment, that won't help you.

I'm very well pleased with my Leica M9.

If you don't like it or don't enjoy using it, nobody is forcing you to keep it. Dump it and get a camera you can operate.

I liked Leicas a long time before the M9 came out. I also liked other cameras. If I don't like a camera I sell it. I've never written a letter to one, though. I've dropped them and so forth, I would think that was insulting enough.
