I suspect this is a question that has already beaten to death in this forum, but probably before my time, so please forgive me if I am dredging up something old and tired.

In the 50's, Canon was very big on the concept of the baseplate trigger wind, with the original Canonflex models a prime example. The market was apparently not as enthused, and the Canonflex reverted to a more normal lever wind after a few years. Trigger winders obviously have their niche, to the extent that new ones can still be bought for Leicas (thanks, Tom).

So when Canon offered a product that could be bought in both configurations, what is the preference of the group? As the best example, I would pick the VI-T and VI-L. A quick and not at all statistically valid sampling of ebay at the moment shows higher asking prices for the VI-L.

Which version would you rather have in a collection, and which one would you rather USE?

Cheers,
Dez

I kind of like the trigger wind, but in reality, but most of my cameras have a conventional lever wind. I'm sure being "brought up" on lever wind cameras has a lot to do with it. I'm tempted to buy a VT to add to my collection (my local camera store has a mint one on display), but he's asking too much money. I do own the accessory trigger wind for my Canon III-A, but rarely use it (not because of the trigger wind, but because of the III-A's squinty viewfinder, which I just don't like).

I do own an original Canonflex which I still use on occasion. Cool camera. I like the design of the trigger wind on the Canonflex better than on the VT or VI-T. Easier to use and a more natural advance action. Still, I use my F-1 more than I use my Canonflex.

I had a VI-T, and the novelty of the trigger wore off quickly. You have to consciously think about lowering the lever when you are ready to shoot another shot, and the cameras are very blocky and surprisingly heavy. I sold it in favor of a P.
