Hi all,

Sorry for the silly question, but I could not find any info about this online. Is there a light meter that I can wear like a watch?

I never got used to carry a light meter when I'm using meter-less cameras, it's just one extra thing to carry, and my sunny 16 experience is not that good.

I thought a good solution would be a meter like this, digital meters are very small today, afterall.

So, does this thing exist?

Thank you,

Francisco

Historically? Well, the Tessina was an entire wrist-attachable camera, with optional meter - though a fully rigged Tessina is quite as bulky and heavy as the first experiments with wrist bands for pocket watches, or nineties attempts at wrist-worn Palms or Garmins...

Besides that, any watch maker should be able to attach a wrist band to a VC-10, L-208, Digisix or other small meter.

I never heard of one, but if such a thing exists, someone here in the forums will have heard of it, have one, and can show photos of it. You might want to consider some of the small hot shoe mounted light meters. I am not that familiar, but again, some here use them.

Have you tried using a meter with a lanyard? I find that not to be such an encumbrance. Some small ones can even be kept around the neck, but placed in a pocket when not needed. Pull it out when it is, drop it to get the photo, not needing to worry as the lanyard is around the neck. I find that isn't a problem. Actually, I don't really mind having a larger one, such as the Luna Pro SBC around my neck. I probably already have a camera around my neck, the light meter is just another part of the gear.

Very inconvenient as you would have to learn how to twist your wrist in any old direction. If you could you could sign on at Cirque de Soleil!

Have you no pockets small enough for a meter? Shirt or pants?

How about attaching it to you neck strap? They used to back in them there old days. I have Welta with a small light meter in a leather pouch attached to the strap.

have you considered the Cosina Voigtlander VC II meter? It is tiny and attaches to your camera flash shoe. Of course, if you have an external viewfinder, that is not as convenient as it sounds.

I mounted my Voigtlander II lightmeter onto a snigle piece Timex watch band pruchased from Walmart. Works great.

This is how it was done: A flash shoe was mounted onto a small square of aluminum. The aluminum square had nine holes drilled along the edges on two sides. This assembly was sewn onto the watch band.

This way the lightmeter can be used on the watchband or on the camera.

If I can figure out how to send a photo I will.

For years I had a Hasseldlad meter that was intended to replace the knob on a 500 CM That was the smallest meter I ever found. About the diameter of a half dollar and 1/2 inches high could easily be super glued to a old watch case if you wanted. I had mine glued to a money clip.

Have you tried the LightMeter app for the iPhone 3GS? Pretty darn accurate, and you're probably going to have a mobile phone with you anyway....

It should not be difficult, technically, to make an incident light meter the size and shape of a watch. That would also be easy to use, if readings taken with the press of a button would stay visible for a few seconds.

[edit] Probably not much good in the presence of Frozen Shoulder or Tennis Elbow...

There was a genuine Hasselblad wrist strap for the meter knob
