Light Seals on the Canon 7

Folks,

Another question about my recently acquired Canon 7. It looks like the light seals are in rather poor condition. When the back is closed there is still some movement of the back when latched shut. So the question is, did you (and should I) replace the light seals on your (my) Canon 7?

I have done this on my Canonet QL17 GIII as well as on my Olympus 35RD and 35SP. It's not difficult, just labor intensive to clean off the old seals. New seals are easy to cut and apply. I have the foam sheets already as well, just no direction regarding thickness of foam to use at the few locations where seals are located (but I should be able to figure this out based upon my experience with the other cameras I have repaired.

Please let me know your experiences with the Canon 7 in regards to replacing the light seals.

I don't think the Canon 7 has light seals. Maybe a couple of little patches on the door, like on the P? Have you tried shooting a roll?

Just checked my old 7. There’s a thin, maybe one millimeter wide light seal, where the “black meets the chrome.” Hard to see, because they’re sitting in a recess in the camera’s body.

A little play in the back door isn’t unusual. I agree with MS, shoot a test roll before doing anything.

Light leaks on Canon RFs are very unusual! I bet your first roll will turn out great.

Thanks for your input. I figured as much but wanted check in with forum members to confirm.

I have not shot a roll yet but now feel that it's okay to load one and shoot away.
