I tried to come up with an opening title that best illustrates how I felt when I first gazed upon the pages of this wonderful site, I actually got tingles up and down my spine when I first arrived.

My actual name is Mario and at the age of 52 I've been enjoying for years the many pleasures that photography has to offer. There has been however periods where I've lost touch with this incredible art form/outlet, I'm very pleased to say that I'm coming out of one of those periods, I'm back.

One of my sons who during his second year at university couldn't suppress his feelings for this art form any longer, he proceeded to bust out all over the place for it and took all of my equipment along with him, I was very glad to accommodate. Having left me with empty Domke bags, well, he got those as well, I was faced with what then do I buy? I borrowed a friends Canon 10D and shot a number of rolls, uh, cards, and as wonderful an experience that this incredible technology brings I felt something was missing. I could go into detail describing what I liked about it and more particularly what I didn't like but that subject has been run around the block or up the flag pole or whatever one too many times.

In seeking guidance from a fellow photographer it was recommended that I look at the G2, I also considered going two and a quarter but at the end of the day I decided to settle on 35mm and the G2. Here comes the good part, I was able to secure a 9 (out of 10) point body with the 28, 45, 90 (all mint with original boxes and documentation) and a just recently purchased 21, all for numbers that are shameful, many thanks to digital for that one.

My first roll of film was XP2 super, I shot the roll quickly using the 45, had it processed at a 1 hour lab and was stunned at the results, if I may, I was like a pig in poop! Those tingles found their way onto my back again.

I look forward to at some point posting photos here and of course sharing ideas with fellow rangers and Contax G lovers.

Mario,
Let me be the first to welcome you to a wonderful forum. Please prepare a gallery to show your work. There are members from around the world and many of us dream of visiting some of the exotic places you call home. Congrats on the G2, I'm sure you will be as happy as the pig you mentioned.

Thank you Richard, I do look forward to viewing the world as seen by my fellow photographers on this forum, I sincerely hope I can return the favor.

Welcome, Mario! And welcome back to photography. Earlier this year I did very much as you did, and lept upon the Contax G wagon. My idea was this was a great opportunity to acquire a fast top-quality 21mm lens at a bargain price, and opted for a G1 body to go with it. Unfortunately, the G1 had frame-spacing troubles and went back, but happily it was replaced by a G2. Then a bunch of other lenses sort of "happened", culminating recently with a successful search for a nice 35 Planar. Amazing how low this gear is priced now... Plus I like your choice of film; I've been using Ilford's XP1/2 since the mid-80's. Hope and expect you'll have a lot of fun, and look forward to seeing your pics. :D

Welcome! But beware. Pretty soon you'll have a cabinet full of cameras. And all of the nice folks here will offer encouragement to help feed your addiction!

I, too, have fallen for Zeiss lenses, but mine are a bit older. I use a Contax IIIa and have several post-war lenses (35, 50, 85, 135).

Fun hobby.

Welcome to the forum!

I have a Contax G2 with 28, 45 and 90 for some time now and just got a 35 for it. Whish I'd got it as my first lens :)

I used to shoot XP2 but switched to "real" B/W film last year due to the shortage of XP2 and my dislike of Kodak BW400CN.
I shoot HP5 or Tri-X, whatever is available, for B/W and Fuji Sensia 100 for color.

Talking about sharp and shooting :)
