Loading film in Canon 7

Hi,

Just got a Canon 7, and I'm anxious to load film in it. However, when I open the back door, the slot for for the film leader in the takeup spool is not visible. I experimented a little, and I see that if I put the camera in rewind mode and advance the lever a little, the spool rotates so I can see the slot.

But, is that the right way to do it?

No need to put it in the rewind mode. The take-up spool is free wheeling, meaning you can spin it at will. Just turn it until the slit is visible.

Thanks Jim. Actually I tried that and the spool did not really feel free - like there was some tension in it. I will look again. After my tribulations with my M3 I am trying hard not to mess things up on day one.

I probably shouldn't have said free-wheeling, there is some resistance as you spin the take-up spool, but it will turn.
