Lomographic Fisheye (170-Degree Lens) Fixed Focus 35mm Viewfinder Camera Kit - Black

I saw this on B&H's site...does anyone have one? $49.95 great price!

What are your results? It looks like a lot of fun!!! :)

I love my little Lomo Fisheye. So do all my friends (it all ways on loan to someone). This camera is great for just having fun and shooting. I love to go to the dollar store and buy the cheapie film and shoot two or three rolls in afternoon. The film advance can be a little touchy and a pain to load (thats why the cheap film, keep the Illford for other things) Do not try and use the viewfinder you only have about 40% view thought it as the lense is so large. Do be very happy when every you bring it up to your face you will smell vanilla!! You will find your self making everyone smell your camera and people will stare at you on the street as you will be sniffing your camera all the time. Plus If it is not high noon out always use your flash or you'll miss out on some great shots. Have fun and go crazy.

Actually, yes. With an M42-L39 and an L39-M adapter I can stick on my Zenitar 16mm fisheye and do exactly what this thing can do.

I took a look at the gallery. It gets boring quickly to look at cat's noses, people's mouth and such. Exactly this is why I'm not using my fisheye very much.

But I guess your setup is a little more expensive than $50.

Quite right you are. But it takes a really creative person to come up with something interesting to shoot and an interesting way of shooting it with a fisheye. There's a reason why fisheye lenses aren't used very much. The results are gimmicky more often than not. The Lomography gallery proves that.

I just had a second look at the gallery, and indeed, the pictures are quite monotonous in appearance.

But it also made me wonder; had they not been taken with a fish-eye, would these have been interesting at all? And I guess, with some possible exceptions, the answer is no; it would have been the same monotonous sequence of similar close-ups.

And then a thought occured; does this also hold the other way round?

In other words, if you have the right composition/timing/light, can you make an equally good picture with a fish-eye as with a rectilinear lens of the same subject?

Just pondering..

Sounds like this thread is about to head far off into deep waters over what is really just a fun toy.

As the one poster said, if it gets him to burning a couple of rolls of cheap film on a lazy Saturday afternoon - that's fun and that's good. :D

Ain't it the truth. :)

Not enough of this goes on in most people's lives.

There is a serious side of fisheyes, for use in some situations (see photo) , but I had rather just use one for fun. And a cheap Lomo is a good place to start.
