Its simply beauty in it's best form. The chrome is so Leica and I would really like one. I wrote to Leica a year`ago and told them I would like to be able to buy this lens in chrome. I guess this is their reply 🙂

They are stiffer (oo er missus) to focus close up, than the non floating element pre asph versions. The cure is to continually refocus from close to distant quickly.... allegedly.

I had the 50asph in black. The focusing was okay and the sliding hood was awful. It was replaced with the LHSA chrome 50 asph. This lens is far more ergonomic and consistent in focusing than the black asph. I would be curious, but I doubt the focusing would be any better on the new version Jorge shows above.

Now those LHSA 50mm/1.4 ASPH lenses are really classic looking. But I rarely use a 50mm, so my f/1.4 RF lens is the 35mm/1.4 ASPH.

I prefer the chrome 35 asph tp the 50 asph. This is a great lens and focal length for the M. The chrome version is a tank and lovely to use. I am trying to force myself to use the 50asph. It is a mild telephoto to me. But I hate to admit that I prefer the 50 elmar chrome to the 50 asph.

Jon, I'm a wide-angle man. A fifty for me is, like to you, a small telephoto. That's why I wrote that my dream lens was the Summilux 35/f1.4... in silver chrome.

Meanwhile, I just bought a 50, f2 Rigid, Type 1 "mint, collector's dream", which turned out to be more of a collector's nightmare! Oh well... It's only money!

Jon, why was/is the sliding hood on the 50 lux ASPH so "awful"?

I have the latest 50 'cron and the hood is poor because it doesn't lock. Otherwise it's small and efficient. I thought the 50 'lux ASPH's hood locked in place.
