a question about the 24 summilux. about how long is it? it's kind of hard to tell since the photos seem to be taken with a wide angle. it doesn't look too bad in the pic though. other pictures make it look huge. does it handle rather well?

and that's the coolest MP i've ever seen!

IMHO, the 24 lux is not big at all (specially without the hood)... I'd say is between a 50 lux and a 75 cron...

Check out this shot next to a 50 lux pre-ASPH to give you a better idea. Of course, not everyone is crazy enough like me to use it without a hood 😀

perfect...thanks for the comparison! i purchased a 24mm elmar recently and i love it, but the speed has been limiting at times. not that i have the dough for a 24 summilux, but i can dream 😉

as for not using the hood...have you run into any problems with flare yet? from your photos it appears not! the 24mm is downright tiny without the hood. maybe i'll give it a whirl.

Agreed - I think 21 lux is even more fun lens than 24mm lux. Both are great from what I see, but I'd prefer 21mm, if i could ever afford one.

You are quite right. It is indeed "Bentley". I kept looking at "Bently" but I couldn't figure out what was wrong.

Unfortunately, I own neither a Ferrari nor a Bentley but I do have a Porsche (meteor gray with a gray interior) and a BMW "motorrad". 😉 I guess I am just hooked on "all things German". (One of these days I would like to go on the Porsche/Leica tour.)

So when someone tells me they found something in Köln, I am going to look!

@Charlie: Wow - and double wow for using them as they were intended. That Titan MP especially has me salivating on the keyboard... I hope they give you lots of joy ( and I'll be keeping a keen eye on your smugmug gallery for uploads... can't wait to see how the new lenses perform in the real-world...)

@Riccis: That lense (especially on the MP) is incredibly clear for one so wide and so fast.... Great pics...

Hi Charlie, do you feel in real use the weight difference of the titanium m7+50mm lux vs the normal ones and is the titanium any different in respect to scratch resistance and signs of use. It's my dream camera but very rare and even rarer are the ones in true use. I would really appreciate any comment about it.

When I saw the one and only Noctilux I've ever seen in a local photoshop I nearly cut out a kidney right there and then to get it. I was generously allowed to take a few photos using my M7 with it and I was blown away with the results. It was a big lens but for us film users, in my opinion, a really brilliant and unique tool to allow us to shoot in conditions we otherwise couldn't. Or at least it allows one to keep the shutter speeds up!

I'm really keen to see some pics with the new model, Charlie.
Like all the others, sorry one person can sometimes ruin an otherwise good thing.

More seriously ... if Olsen has been banned I personally think that's a little heavy handed. Charlie is quite capable of defending himself and did in fact do an excellent job of putting Olsen in his place and he [Olsen] was also pretty heavily censured by a couple of other members. His remarks may have been petty but they weren't abusive and I would dread to think that his banning was because he insulted 'RFF royalty!'

Hi Lukjan,

The M7 & MP Titans are indeed a little heavier although why I'm not sure, it could possibly be my imagination. In other words what I'm saying is that if they are heavier, it's NOT an issue. I have to say that as a shooter but also a collector of photographic instruments both old and new, I have NEVER held any camera more beautiful and more perfect than either the Ti M7 or especially the Ti MP. I feel so utterly privileged to own them, I really do. When the M7 Ti came out in 2004, I was unaware because I was totally on a digital trip and had ignored my Leica's for a while, by the time I learned of them they were all gone..... sold to the 50 lucky owners in various parts of the world. I dreamed about owning arguably the most perfect 35mm camera ever made.

When I became friends with Steffen K at Leica, he promised me that he would find one but the one's we came across, the owners all wanted so much money for them. Finally, he found a three lens set at a reasonable price (it was still what some might consider horrendously expensive but that was the best it was going get) so I jumped on it. I cannot put into words the feeling I got over dinner in Bergish Gladbach (where my wife is from) when Steffen and Dr. Kaufmann handed me the Titanium case with the M7 and three lenses inside. Mine bares the year 1975, all of the fifty sets out there have a dedicated year engraved on the bodies and lenses to match so you cannot even buy a one lens set and look for a 28mm & 90mm Ti lenses to match.

I've always wanted an MP and about two months ago, I learned that there were 150 made for a special store in Japan. Steffen and Steffen said that they had one at Solms that they always keep for the museum and another one that happened to be all but finished. They did me the huge favour by finishing it for me and that is how I came by it and also why I say I'm lucky and most privileged to know two great people.

I'm working doing TV and promotion for my upcoming tour which means early wake-up calls and hotel rooms in different countries that all start blending into one another so I'm not really getting a chance yet to shoot anything worthwhile but I will put that Noctilux on the Titan MP and get into it. Until then I will shoot it on the M8 and post whatever's worthwhile to my smugmug account. I will keep you posted.

Hey Keith, I certainly don't consider myself "RFF royalty" Hey man, I'm just a guy like anyone else who loves photography and wants to share my joy and excitement here with other members. Contrarily it's people like Olsen who post here to ironically do anything but share in other peoples excitement and love for photography, instead he attacked me for being famous!! I certainly did not ask for him to be banned however he was insulting and I deal with Schmucks like him in other areas of my professional life, I don't need to come to RFF to antagonize with one more, I come here in the hope that I would find like-minded, normal people like me who don't profess to be the next Richard Avadon, but who just plain and simpley ...LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY AND GET EXCITED ABOUT GREAT GEAR!

Slightly off topic but to do with music and fame ... our own Peter Garrett, lead singer from the enigmatic OZ band 'Midnight Oil' came out of retirement temporarily this weekend to do a benefit concert for the Australian bushfire victims. He's currently the federal government minister for environment, heritage and the arts and I was highly impressed that he chose to do this ... apparently the concert which was in Sydney last night was a ripper ... Crowded House performed also!

I'll be getting an opportunity to photograph and meet Peter later in the year when he opens an exhibition I'm shooting for the Queensland University Of Technology! 🙂
