Love love all these photos. I grew up literally a stone's throw from the Ohio River in Kentucky. I left when I was 17. Got into photography at age 20 with the purchase of a used Nikon F and 50/1.4 lens (Both of which I still have today). So sadly I never took any shots of the majestic Ohio River.

Portland, Oregon is nestled in an area blessed with many beautiful rivers. These spots are just minutes away.
I captured this image of the ZigZag river while wading the river.
I took this photo of my buddy when we were fly fishing for steelhead the Sandy river.
My wife took this shot of myself spey casting — also on the Sandy river.

While I have always enjoyed being in the presence of a river, it wasn’t until around eight years ago when I began floating and wading rivers while fly-fishing that I developed the appreciation for them that I have now. Spey fishing for steelhead is not an exercise for the impatient. Yet I am rarely concerned with this whenever I find myself outnumbered by bald eagles or deer, or accompanied by river otters amongst other creatures — all of whom have gathered at this epicenter of the ecosystem in which they live. I will never look at a river the same way as I do since taking up fly-fishing. In turn, I’ve enjoyed this thread immensely.

The Saigon River with a view over District 2. I took this picture in August 2013. Since then, the landscape has changed dramatically: the green area
is now being developed and several large-scale urban projects are under construction, including a new bridge situated in-between the two bends in
the river. The next time I'll get up on this tower, I'll take another one. Cheers, OtL
