Actually a Nooky Hesum, and found this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Leica-NOO...ers_Lenses&hash=item2c6045c990#ht_5201wt_1165

£327 seems a very high price for one of these nifty little devices. I have heard the argument about not having to buy it but the seller appears to specialise in Leica and presumably knows the value of the items he sells.

On the other hand so does Peter Walnes who has been selling second hand Leica equipment for decades. He has an identical item in Ex ++ condition for £35:

What I want to know is how can two presumably reputable dealers disagree so dramatically about the value of a not especially rare accessory?

If the lower value is correct then the dealer selling one for nearly ten times as much is surely guilty of taking advantage, if nothing worse.

I no longer buy on Ebay as I've found that prices vary widely. Some sellers just seem to think of a price, treble it and then add some! I suppose if they can get that price then good luck to them, but I'm often surprised that people buy an item from Ebay that they could get from a long-standing dealer for a fraction of the cost - and usually with six months guarantee.

There's a Nooky Hesum for sale here for £55.00:

And there's one here for 95 Euros:

Both are reputable dealers, and with the one from Peter Walnes (another great dealer), should give you an idea of the market price.

Taking advantage? Not really. What is anything like this 'worth'? It's a matter of opinion. As you say, no-one has to buy it, and if it's worth $500 to someone (I take it that the rather odd '327' is a conversion from that sum), best of luck to both buyer and seller. I'm surprised at how little Peter is asking, but again, maybe it's been in stock too long, or he has three of them.

EDIT: I think the prices John quotes above would be more in line with my expectations.

Cheers,

I appreciate your views Roger but I find the dealers who ask ridiculous amounts of money frustrating and annoying. Sometimes I wonder whether there isn't some motive other than greed behind it, like money laundering, because these things never sell, they just get relisted over and over again. It doesn't take much of an effort to have a look at completed auctions to get an idea of what things actually fetch and price you wares accordingly. I mean when was the last time you saw a badly-worn Leica I actually sell for £21,000?

Well, if they're money laundering it makes it a lot easier if they sell the stuff.

A dealer near Bristol was nicked for fencing hot cameras because he was asking top dollar and (understandably) never got it. So when they nicked him he had a couple of hundred thousands quids' worth of stock.

Which is better: to sell something at a realistic price in a few days or weeks, or to sell it for silly money after a year or two? A NOOKY doesn't eat much, and if it doesn't stand him in much either, why not try for silly money? You wouldn't pay it; I wouldn't pay it; but as long as someone does...

Cheers,

R.
