Looking for the right adapter

I'm trying to buy a Leica CL and since I'm streaching my budjet to buy the body i'll have to use a Russian lens for a while. But i want to be sure the frame lines are correct. i'm going to use my Industar 26mm 2.8 I'm looking at a Leitz SM 28-50mm lens for M2 camera. Will this work ?

The CL doesn't have 28mm framelines. The CLE has 28mm framelines.

So when using the 28mm lens the CL will only show 40mm frame lines, correct ?
If so how hard is it to do mental adjustments to be able to use the 28mm ?

No. A 28/90mm adapter will bring up the 90mm framelines on a CL. With the 40mm framelines always visible you will see both. With a 50/75 adapter you will see the 50mm framelines and the always visible 40mm framelines. A 35/135 will also show same 40/50mm famelines.

Now to a 28/50 adapter, this is really a 50/75 adapter but it was made prior to the introduction of 28mm framelines in M cameras so it does create a bit of confusion as its not a real 28mm adapter. With this adapter you will will see the 40mm and 50mm framelines. If you want to use a 28mm lens on a CL then I recommend the Voigtlander 28/35mm minifinder. The CL has neither of these framelines so you get 2 in 1 and its compact and looks at home on top of a CL without affecting its size too much like alot of larger finders do.

PS be careful with some of the Russian wides they often extend deep into the body and will touch the CL's meter cell.

regarding the use of a minifinder: does a separate viewfinder only give you a frameline or does it also give you a way to adjust focus. It would seem pretty annoying to have to look through both viewfinders to set up a shot.

Viewfinders are for framelines only. Its really not that bad to focus and compose independently. In fact some people prefer the more uncluttered view. And with wides you can zone focus pretty effectivly most times.
