I've had mine since new for over a year now, but suddenly the focus tab has started wobbling drastically - anyone had this issue and know how to sort it out without sending the lens in for a CLA?

Happened to mine. I sold it. Not because of that but to fund a project.
But the store that bought it fixed it before selling on, easy fix they said...
Good luck with the lens. The problem didn't bother me much, but might have been less drastic than what you're experiencing!

yes and yes (I had the same thing happen, pretty much)--
you'll have to unscrew the rear retaining ring with baffles (which holds the rear element in) and then under that is the ring that holds the optical block to the helicoid stuff. Undo that one and then you should have access to the screws that hold the focusing tab in. Roland's put up a good photo of how this all fits together here. On my lens, there was some thread-locking stuff on the screws, which is kind of funny because it evidently didn't work very well.
when I fixed mine, the screws holding the tab in were a bit soft and I think I might have deformed the heads a bit. So be careful.
