Sorry... just taking out my frustrations, I guess. I was recently moved from a nice office, with a wall, to a cubicle. It's a nice, spacious cubicle - 100 sq. ft. But the guy in the next box talks to himself... well, it's more like making weird noises. He has a repetoire of 9 distinct noises. They are very predictable, but very annoying. I have a deadline due and I can't concentrate. So I'm spending my time on RFF while I wait for a moment of quite so I can work.

Oh... he just stepped out to lunch. I'd better get some work done before he comes back!

Actually, I think he's using humor to point out that the humorless have self-appointed themselves the 'please stop talking about this' police. Humor is funny, it has a point, and some call it 'wit'. You may have heard of it.

Bill, if you are talking about me, I am not humourless. I was only suggesting that this site has a perfect forum for threads like this which stir up vitriole and do more harm to the ambiance of this site than good. Your "Some call it wit, you may have heard of it" comment comes across as smug and condescending to me.

You should record these, convert the sounds to .wav files and play them back on your computer whenever you feel like it.

When he realizes that there is actually no echo in his cubicle, he might clam up.

I don't care if it is him, or not. I'm a middle-aged, pencil-necked, necktie-wearing, pencil-pusher... and I have no intentions of finding out if they are really his biceps or not. And, what'smore... I don't really live in Los Angeles... I'm just saying that so I look sophisticated. I really live in NYC. Ya, that's right... come find me... I'm in NYC.

Okay, Frank, my apologies for bringing up the subject. I'm just being peckish this afternoon and certainly didn't want to ruffle your feathers.... or anyone elses.

I'll go back to work. The idea of recording the noises is a great idea. Kicking the wall hasn't worked. Perhaps I'll also send the .wav files to the inventor of the cubicle to confirm his brilliant "conclusion" that productivity dives in that kind of environment.

What, you don't like vitriole? I think it is excellent on pasta, but I always pay for it later on, if you know what I mean.

Actually, I was aiming at light-hearted and flippant. Oh, I'm doing it again. D'Oh!

In honesty, although I really wasn't talking about you, I guess I wanted to note that continuing to say "This thread is in danger of being sent to the showers" is a good way to get it sent to the showers. Continually harping that "this thread is becoming vicious and mean-spirited" tends to make it such. Huh, guess that's intentional. Wow, that was hard to figure out. If someone says something you don't like, say 'booger' and watch it disappear. It reminds me of the childishness of the old "let's all ignore threads by people we don't like and reply like crazy people to ANY other thread to push down the one we don't want to see anymore off the front page." That one was fun.

He probably doesn't make any royalties off the panels. My brother in law knows the guy who invented those reflectors they use in the center lines of highways. He makes 3¢ for each one produced.

Yup, back in the old days we used Magnetic Tape that weighed 20 pounds a Reel and was 1inch wide! Only held 11 GBytes!!! Yep, Sangamo Weston T80 28-track tape.

And the computer that we lifted onto the P3 Orion weighed 200Pounds! Programmers weren't little weenies in those days...

I've noticed that some people have been mildly flamed for posting links to their eBay auctions. Is this a definite no-no for the RFF buy/sell forum?

When you make deal on this forum, a deal between two regular players of this site, a level of trust would have already been established from their past associations. If someone is using the site merely to promote a sale, and their post history speaks to that fact, then we obviously can't give them the level of legitimacy.
