welcome back!
if it's one thing i keep re-learning it's never to sell any Leica gear, because you just buy it back again. i'm re-joining the 35mm 'lux club again tomorrow... selling it and my M4-P to 'try out' digital was a stupid mistake. BUT! I have ended up with an M2 instead of the M4-P and that I am pleased with! most definitely

Never EVER sell a M2! You only end up spending more for the next one!!!!
I have one M2 dedicated to the ZM C Biogon 35f2.8, another for the Nokton 35f1.4 - in the morning I check the weather and take the one that suits it! OK, I also have one with a 40f1.4 on it for those indecisive days when you go "Should I take a 35 or a 50 out with me today?"

Yikes! I've just sold my tried and trusted, battered old M2 for a low, low price.
A bit of a wrench, but I just couldn't justify having it sitting around doing nothing when someone out there could be putting it to good use and getting some enjoyment out of it.
Miss it, but at least I'm fortunate enough to have another M2 to console myself with.

My son collected my M2 for me, after its makeover and black stove enamel job by Peter Grisaffi in Luton, UK. A few days later I was amused to see that Tom Jnr had filled in a form that asked for his religion -- by stating: "Leica M2".

I like your sons style. Hope you will give him a M2 of his own! Well, there are enough of us preaching the superiority of the M2 to qualify for tax exemption as a church!
At least " the end is near" - means that you are on frame 35!!!!

I am ready or will be soon to invest in an M2, an M3 or even possibly an M4-2 or M4 if the price is right. Now I have only a CL, a Bessa R2, and a (forgive me) R4s mod p. I vant de rrreal t'ing, as Great Garbo used to say, privately. I'm pretty convinced I'd prefer an M2 over the M3 for the 35mm lens /viewfinder issue, even though the M3 viewfinder is so much larger/brighter by reputation (is this true?). But also tell me why the M2 is preferable to the M4, price considerations aside.
Thanks

PS -- As Emily Littella used to say, NEVER MIND. I got linked to this page and didn't realize there were 9 pages preceding it more than answering my question. Very compelling testimony too.

Just to add some more on the benefit of M2's. Just arrived home from 21 days in Europe (4300 km's - mainly in Germany, but with some forays to Sweden/France.
Three cameras along, a M2 with a 35f1.4 Nokton SC, a R4M with a C-Biogon 21f4.5 and a R3M with the 75f1.8 Heliar and a 12f5.6 (M-mount version). The M2 got the most use by far. Out of 50 rolls of film, probably 25 were done with it!

I've got my eye out for another M2. I stupidly sold my last and I'm now the proud owner of a 35 Summaron 2.8 so I need something to mount it on and an M2 seems to be the logical choice.

Luck smiled on me. Just scored an M2 on eBay:

Awesome! I've got a Summaron mounted on mine as well. It's a criminally underrated lens IMO. The Summicrons get all the hype.
I think you'll love the combo

jmooney, that is a very good price you got on that M2.
I noticed one thing from the auction pics: my M2s have felt strips along the vertical "rims" of the camera's back. (not the swing-out backdoor, but the back itself.) I might be wrong, but it looks like this M2 does not have them. I have no idea how crucial they are for lighttightness - and I think they would be very easy to replace even by a layman. Not trying to alarm you, just something I noticed and you might wanna be aware of once the camera arrives.
Again, a very good price for a camera that was recently serviced, and a new Griptac covering to boot!
All the best!
