Love my M2 !!!

Boris, you can easily remove the lever from the selftimer and the collar - but unless you have it recovered you will have a bit of a 'hole" there.
Also, try to find the "collar" from a M3 (check with Leica repair guys) and have it installed around the release button. Stops most of the involuntary lens releases.

Thank you Tom for clearing this up! I just got the idea to try the rapid grip first before removing the self timer lever.

My M2 is in competent hands, getting repainted.

And no, I cannot say what color since I do not know! I've given the artist a free hand to choose between two colors and decide which parts of the camera will be painted and which will remain chrome.

Might take a couple of weeks more before I can reveal what was given to me! Untill then my M3 will have to suffice (which it easily does so far)

just put a rapid grip on mine...

$65.00 on eBay. How could I say no?

Ah, the M2! I've got 5 in working order and one out of commission and needing a radical makeover. It mighjt be best used for spare parts. The working ones all have Rapidwinders.

Well, I accidentally joined the M2 club.

Been using a pair of m6's for ages. Both well used, been all over the world and did my first paid jobs for me.

But this weekend one jammed. Turns out the whole shutter mechanism was broken. And I need a backup for a little project I'm about to do. So after a long chat at the lovely Leica shop I've used, I traded the broken body in and left with a very nice m2. It's sitting here now, with a 35 on it. The action's wonderfully smooth, mechanically great. The body's in nice condition too, not perfect but nice enough. And all from 1960 I think.

So my little handheld meter is going to get more use than usual..

So any m2 tips for an m6 user?!

Do people generally use a rewind crank? I'm guessing Camera Quest is the best one?

I like the re-wind crank's. They do speed up re-loading a bit. The best one around is Cameraquest's "magnum" styled one. I do have rewinds on about 1/2 my m2's - need to get some more. Occasionally you get M2's that a very tight around the knob and it can be tricky to pull it up - usually all it takes is a bit of "jiggling" the advance.

It's funny: I tend to regard my M2 as my "ordinary" M that I can take anywhere and use for any purpose. I also have an M3 and M5 and these are much more "special occasion" cameras. I can just throw the M2 and 35/2.8 plus L-208 into a bag and a few rolls of HP5+ or FP4+ without really thinking about it - with the others I can spend ages cogitating about what lenses/films/whether to take etc.

I was recently in Beirut and had a day free. I had my M2 set up with me and went to Baalbek in the Beq'aa Valley and had a very good set of results.

I guess part of it is that I had my M2 recovered in Cameraleather slate blue, so it feels more like my own camera. I did actually sell it once, but bought it back when I happened to come across it for sale a year or so later, none the worse for wear.

Last time I checked, camera quest is sold out of their rewind levers.
A bummer, they are a great value.

Another option is Photoequip's MP-Winder, at 179$ its not much cheaper than the newer Leica branded lever, but a lot easier found as they still produce and sell these readily.

If its something you think you'll find useful, the price is reasonable.

I own and use so many RF cameras, so why have I not bought an M2 so far?
I hope that my "case" can be cured one day.
What is wrong with me?!
