Love my M2 !!!

@Raid: Same here! With all the cameras I have, I'm missing the key link between my M3 and M4-2, maybe this weekends swap will provide.

Gosh there are a lot of M2 owners out there! Can I ask you guys a question: how is the M2 viewfinder for people (like me) who wear glasses? The only camera I have ever owned where I could see the entire frame while wearing my glasses is my old Voigtlander BR (which has the same viewfinder as the later Vitomatics). The viewfinder is 1:1 as well! I use Olympus SLRs and have an OM 1n and an OM 4. Their viewfinders are good but I do have to move my eye around just a little to see the edges. As a glasses wearer it's the first thing I would assess when handing a camera for the first time.

Not sure if sunglasses and prescription glasses is a fair comparison, but I often use my M2 with sunglasses on and have no problem, other than the fact that the ring around the viewfinder is metal (as opposed to rubber on my M6) so you must be careful not to scratch your lens.

Thanks Tom, that sounds very good.

I like the re-wind crank's. They do speed up re-loading a bit. The best one around is Cameraquest's "magnum" styled one. I do have rewinds on about 1/2 my m2's - need to get some more. Occasionally you get M2's that a very tight around the knob and it can be tricky to pull it up - usually all it takes is a bit of "jiggling" the advance.

Ok, maybe a second hand one..
Off to the want to buy section again!

Last time I checked, camera quest is sold out of their rewind levers.
A bummer, they are a great value.

Another option is Photoequip's MP-Winder, at 179$ its not much cheaper than the newer Leica branded lever, but a lot easier found as they still produce and sell these readily.

If its something you think you'll find useful, the price is reasonable.

Our local camera fixer, Horst (mechanical only, please) has started to paint cameras. He is using a gun coat black paint, camera is stripped to nickel plating. I had one done, all black, even lens release button etc and it has a wonderful "stealth" look to it. I kept it to a flat black finish, rather than the semi-gloss. Looks really good (and he filled in the dents that occurred when I fell on it a year ago).
I dont care about trying to duplicate the original black - I just wanted a non reflective surface on the camera.

Is this a weekend swap close to where you are living?

Its about a 2 hour drive south, the swap is bi-monthly at best. The Michigan swap is just a stop in a circuit of shows that encompass the north east. Many of the swappers and dealers are from the greater Chicago and New York areas. Ide say only about 5 tables end up local swappers out of 20 or so.

My memory fails me as to the name, but there is a Leica dealer that's been there every show for atleast 3 years, nice old couple from the Chicago area?

We usually wake up at dawn and start packing, its usually a 7 hour day with the drive there and back along with a good amount of swapping and general bull****ting.

@Tom: that's a good looking repaint! It looks almost like black chrome, is there a reason the nickel was left?

Love my M2's twice as much. Lucky to have the perfect lenses for them: contemporaneous Summaron and Summicron.

My only Leica is a M2 and love it. It works amazingly with the 35mm and its all I really want and need at the moment. Tried a MP the other day and it wasnt the same feeling. I never thought of having two of any camera but the M2 will be a possible.

The nickel plating is left partly because it involves some rather aggresive chemicals to get off - but manly to provide a "bite" for the paint to adhere to.

Ok, quick query/ concern for Tom or others post my new m2 arrival....
My shutter speed dial feels really loose for the slower speeds, not firmly down and not working in firm clicks per stop? The dial is much looser than my m6 generally.
Cn this be easily tweaked and tightened or is it likely something else?

Check the screw holding the shutter speed dial in place - if it is loose - it can cause the dial to wobble a bit. It could also be worn cams in the shutter speed assembly - or, again loose screws. The clicl stops can wear down with use - but it usually doesn't affect the speeds.

Thanks so much Tom. I'm going to get it checked by the store I traded in at. Hopefully just a loosened screw!
