The original MP came with the M3 finder (50/90/135) but many were converted to M2 (35/50/90). The original finder was a standard M3 (0.91) and the M2 the 0,78. Leica would do the conversion at the time. The MP was just another version of the M3/M2 at the time - aimed at the pro market. The Leicavit MP was an added bonus - and it does help for fast shooting.

Was this just a typo on Tom A's part, or is the viewfinder on the M2 really 0.78? I thought the standard viewfinder on all Leicas after the M3 was 0.72.

I just started using my M2 for the first time in months. Sending the m6 to get the film counter fixed and MP finder installed. The M2 is just hands down the best camera I’ve ever used. So smooth and perfect ergos. I think it’ll be my summer camera now.

These are spectacular. Leica lens B+W is really very special. Of course there is no better Leica M for 35mm than the M2. The 0.58 MP is a close second
