Seems I have thread-mount fever and I need help!

My III F has been my go-to for a long time now! Only body that I want to shoot! And yes I am getting what I want from it with the elmar 5cm F/3.5,

I am heading to Ireland for the 1st time Fall 2018. Thinking of only brining the LTM and a bag o’ black and white film..... Is this nuts? can you relate? have you done something similar?
 
I did Berlin last summer with only a IIIc, Elmar 50/3.5, and lots of HP5+, so no, it's not nuts. Unless we both are, in which case it is.

Hm, you can buy b&w film in Europe ^^
 
It's an excellent idea. I usually go on holiday with one camera, one lens and some film. In my case if it's a 50mm lens I take an old Voigtlander Vito B but if it's a wide angle lens I take a 28mm Color Skopar fitted to my Leica IIC. With just one set up its funny how after a very short time you adapt to what you have got. Your positioning, what you think (hope!) will make a good shot etc. It works! go for it!

02pilot I am about 4 hours south in Kittery elsworth is nice, not far from Acadia national park, you will need to bring your own film slim pickings up there.
 
I love traveling with my Barnack. Used to be a IIIf, now a IIIc. Love the simplicity of it, and it helps me slow down (compared to my digital stuff). Only concern I'd have is traveling thru the airports with the film. If you can purchase film where you're going to be in Ireland, I think that might be a good way to go.

I'll second Charlie's statement of slim pickings for film. About the only option you have, assuming you are driving up from NY, is to make a stop in Portland, off exit 45 on I95, to Hunt's. It's been a little while since I've stopped in, but they always had an okay selection of film on hand, though certainly not the cheapest.

Small world. I'm just a couple of towns over in Wells. As to your original question, that's not crazy at all. I did a couple of trips in the past with just a IIIf and Elmar. Last trip I did a couple of weeks ago was just with a Certo Six folder and some HP5, so you could be crazier 😛
 
Maine Coast Photo in Belfast Me. stocks a limited selection of 35mm film if your driving up the coast. As others said, best to bring what you think you'll need and then some.

Thinking about a Spring 2019 trip to the Dingle peninsula. Would like to know how the one camera, one lens experience worked for you.

Totally NUTS! But if you enjoy shooting with it, so what 😀

I took two IIIf's, one with a W-Nikkor 3.5cm F1.8 and one with a Skopar 21/4, on a trip to Berlin, a few other spots in Germany, and Prague this time last year. It was the first time I traveled with LTM cameras only, and no regrets at all.
 
I've passed through Kittery (and Wells) many times. We stay in Ogunquit a couple times a year, and every now and again in Portland. Don't worry, I'll be driving up from NY with all the film I need. Haven't decided on the camera(s) yet - thinking of going MF, maybe TLR, maybe folder, maybe pinhole....

Back on the topic, however, a screwmount Leica with a collapsible lens is an incredibly handy and useful travel camera. I think they're perfect for European cities where you tend to do a lot of walking.

This sounds like an excellent plan!
I figure that when traveling having a camera & lens set up that you know well and that you know work well makes photography while on the trip a bit less stressful. The compact size of your IIIf and Elmar is going to be a good thing also.

Look up James Ravilious, OK so many of his pictures were taken in Devon with a Summar (I think) but you'll get the general idea.

Sunny 8 (not 16) I'd suggest plus you may want to take a yellow filter as well but that's about all you need.

This was a big debate in my mind. :bang:
Both are Beautiful

but went with the Classic. ...
reason being I want it to Brass over time
The Duracoat is rock solid finish

will post some photos when 'She' arrives
😉
 
LTM fever is like malaria then, in that it keeps recurring strongly at times. I was going well with my M6 when all of a sudden I bought a nickel Elmar to go with my black III and I've been unable to stop taking photos with it since. Best of luck with your black IIIf Helen.
