Haha that's OK, you've done enough Sir! I've already emailed Luigi and he has them in stock in black, brown and aged brown but I'm not sure if I can bite the bullet or not.
You €170+shipping is too much to ask for a Father's Day gift?![]()
I bought mine used. I think Popflash had it, or perhaps Luigi himself. It's worth checking around because the case is damned expensive new.

Yeah I bought the Luigi case for my Bessa in the classifieds here. It was still in the unopened package from Luigi and much less than new. Maybe I'll just have to be patient.

The manual mentions that 21mm lenses can't be used, which I assume meant the 21mm lenses of the time. I won't have a problem putting a LTM 21mm Color-Skopar on here, will I? With the M adapter, of course. Is that going to throw off the metering?

The metering cell is approximately 13+ mm from the surface of the lens flange. The day I was pondering buying the 28mm M-Hexanon, the rear extension of the lens is considerably deeper than my other lenses. Turns out it was 12- mm and works fine. 12mm extension seems to be the cutoff.

If you put a soft release on a vertical hang M5 your elbow will be shooting more pix than you will. If you're really serious about using your M5 as a camera then forget about wasting money on a case. The case adds bulk and turns film changing into a major pain.

I was wondering why so few M5 pics on Flickr had soft releases on them compared to other M's

Maybe it's because, with a bit of practice, you can very gently take up the slack, retract the metering cell and then with just a hint of extra pressure "click". The picture is taken. Assuming you heard the shutter for confirmation.

While i dont use a soft release on mine, I do use a case. - well half-case. And I find it to make this camera more usable with it as it makes it a lot more comfortable to hold due to built-in grip into the Zhou case. Taking case off for the film change is not a problem for me - its very simple task and I dont use my M5 at AK-47's speed, so I can actually slow down for a minute to do it. I dont think that case adds that much bulk, really. Put a 90 Summicron on your M - now thats some bulk!
So, for me it was money WELL SPENT on the half case.

I loop a black hairtie through the M5 strap lug, then it gets pulled under my TomA softie. No more misfires! Al will be happy to hear I bought the pack of hairties at the local dollar store.
My Zhou case dosen't significently slow down my reloading of M5, maybe 5 seconds, while I unsnap it, and pull it off. So I leave it on all the time. Like the extra grip it provides.

I enjoyed shooting my Bessa much more after buying the Luigi case, it made it so much easier to hold so I'm sure I'll probably get a case at some point

Emailed him already, he's out of Zhou cases for the M5. He referred me to Mr. Zhou.

Gave up on getting a half-case for my M5... it's just not in the budget right now. My local camera store had a black Zing SLR cover that should fit perfectly in the clearance bin so I grabbed it. I won't use it while shooting, but it should offer good protection while the M5 is in my camera bag.

I used my 21 SA on my M5's. I had to change the flange to one with a cut-out (like later 21 SA's had). I still have that flange with the cut-out if anyone needs one.
You can't meter with the 21 SA on the M5, but with the cutout, you won't break the meter arm.

Well-known
I found a mint Leica ever ready case for my M5, (not the zippered thing but the old style) nice for protection when I'm only carrying one camera/lens but using it as a half case made the M5 feel huge and a tad awkward (though it has no built-in grip). And then there is the inability to use the camera's strap lugs, one must resort to the conventional horizontal carry provided by the case. I do like a soft release though.
Enjoy your M5

Thanks for the info. Has anyone actually tried the CV 21mm f/4 on the M5?

CapitalK,
I have the original trapezoidal case that Leica made for the 2-lug M5. It's in quite good condition. It includes a strap. I don't think the case is leather, for sure the strap isn't. I can let you have it for $35.00. Let me know if you want to see a photo.

Now you tell meI already bought the Zing case but if you don't mind sending me a pic I'd appreciate it. Not sure if I'll use it shooting, I mostly wanted something for inside my camera bag.
Thanks!
It's definitely not a case you would use inside of another. Unless you were a bit nuts. I'll post a pic.
