M5 Strap lugs and split rings

TOOLSFORLEATHER.jpg
Here are the tools to reproduce them.
In the photo there is more. You need a roll of strap, Japanese scissors and the tool for punching holes. All found at Amazon.
In the upper part a just built strap and the tool for sewing (never used so far)

I've just bought two battered but working M5s. These are the best ever rangefinders,in my estimation. The first came with a Leica nylon strap probably from a modern camera or binoculars. This strap is fastened to each individual lug. The second M5 came with the original strap. The original strap is great because if one lug breaks the camera will be on my shoulder. I've had a camera that fell and smashed because each lug was independent.

The original strap is a continuous piece of leather threaded through both lugs.

these are very nice and practical solutions. However, was looking to mod a Harry Benz strap and some of the solutions don't seem compatible without completely wrecking the style ...and it's high priced stuff.

Hap I was just looking at my Benz straps. It dawned on me that you could remove the stitching and buy some leather the right size to fit through the M5 strap tabs....then restitch those pieces through the existing stitch holes on the Benz Strap...
