M6 or MP?

no matter what brand or model, i like having 2 of the same camera, for those times that i shoot 2 cameras during the same outing.

when shooting only one camera than it doesn't much matter to me if i have different brands or models.

i would likely go for the mp as i too like the idea of a mechanical camera to partner with a battery dependent one.

but i also would more likely get another zeiss ikon, in my case, a black one.

back alley : Yap, thought I like ZI alot, for me it feels little bit too light and faint, even to compare it with FM3a, so I would not mind something more tank like....

I wish we 'd stop talking about the MP. I really thought I was done with my last lens. Alas! Alas! :bang:

P.S. Ha,ha I like the thought of the tank the MP is, whispering sweet (shutter) nothings to your ear 😀

I'll be very happy to do this for the Forum, since shutter sound issues pop up quite frequently here, myself included. Give me about another ten days (hopefully less), and any suggestions are most welcome. I know that to some it may sound nerdy, but I for one gather enormous inspiration from what Chris Weeks (I love this man even though I've never met him) has so aptly called the 'Thwaaaap' of a good Leica M...

All my best,[/QUOTE]

Outstanding. Thanks in advance for doing this. Great idea.

Having got both i prefer the MP for its flare free rangefinder and quieter operation.
I prefer the smoother non-cranked winder lever and the black paint finish.
The downside is the slower rewind mechanism. The aftermarket Leica rewind crank is expensive and an awkward action (for me anyway) as you have to pull the small silver lever up at the same time as rewinding. I actually had a friend redesign this part and affix a longer handle which makes rewind very fast.
Both are great cameras.

Hi Nachkebia!

Thats a sweet choice you have to do 😛

First I want to say go with the MP! (its the new MP isn´t it? not the one from the M3 aera?)
I´ve just received my new used M6 (1990) on Friday and have compared it to my beloved (but now sold) M3...Now I understand that everyone was raving about build quality with the M3 since the Wind-lever is so much smoother (brass gears) and also the shutter release is more precise (I think the new MP is the same, right?) The new MP is said to be of the same quality than the M2-3 (also with sweet heavy brass top plate)
Anyways that doesn´t bother me much but one thing thats somehow annoying is that I had the Rangefinder-flare issue quite often and I only ran 5 Rolls through it! My M3 never did this to me 😱 ...that would be a big plus for the new MP!!!

otoh I love the M6 as I got it for a great price and even have 30€ profit (beer)over it with selling my M3! Plus a build in light meter and its black which rightly or wrongly lets me assume that I´m more stealthy 😎

BTW I love your Photos! great eye you have there!

the rewind knob sucks. if you can find this rewind crank on ebay, go for the mp. otherwise, an a la carte mp (with angled rewind crank and classic top engraving), m7, or m6 would be nicer to use.

M6 vs. MP? The choice is a no-brainer. The most recent, most expensive, and most luxurious has to be the best. Any other opinion is un-American. 😉

Hello!
I have been thinking about my second rangefinder body really deep 🙂 I own ZI so I want second body maybe fully mechanical, so I can get new M6 and used MP in a same price, I just want sugestions which and why, maybe even used M7? anyhow think loud, thanks in advance! 🙄

Where can you find an MP at about the same price as an M6?! Is this a local shop or on the web? PLEEEESE let me know. I've been trying to find a fairly priced M6, but I've never been able to come close on price of an MP or M7 for that matter. I would prefer the MP over the M6.

Thanks,
Nate

Nachkebia,

MP! MP! MP! MP! MP!......

i settled on a user M4 since last year, from what i lerant, they are very close in design (?); it never fails me, and i am so sure how it is to behave; and imagine it is bought from new, plus a bilt-in meter and not 50 yr old... wow; that must be MP!
