Well it was a beautiful Saturday and why not spend it outside cooking some beef ribs while drinking some beer!

Oh man that stuff will kill you! 🙁
I would not say I'm vegetarian but when I see BBQs I think I shall...

mmmm...ribs. if you're ever in la, bludso's is the place to go. nate's and phillips are also good, in that order.

I might just have to do that for lunch now. As y'all know, Kansas City does have the best barbeque (I don't care what Memphis says 😉 ). Now, do I go to Gates, Arthur Bryant's, Oklahoma Joes.... Hmmm.

popstar,

Have you ever been to Guy & Mae's Tavern in Williamsburg, KS ???

mmm, Diana's Sauce. Have to admit I'm partial lately to slow cooked (weber kettle for a bunch of hours) pork side ribs with a nice dry rub. Best ribs I ever had were somewhere near Guthrie , Oklahoma.

Hey Sam. Actually, I haven't been to Guy & Mae's, but thanks for reminding me of it. Someone told me about it several months back, but I didn't retain the info. I have to head toward Emporia in a few weeks and might just have to make a slight detour since it's not too far out of the way. Just curious, have you had them, or just curious based on their very good reputation?

popstar,

I used to work for a company that was located in Emporia, KS...I was a Service Rep for them and lived out in California while working for Didde Web Press...
We would travel back to Emporia several times a year and would have dinner there if we could get enough of the guys to drive to Williamsburg...40 miles one-way for Ribs is a bit of a drive but was worth it when you had a big group...
Sadly it's been too long since I've been there (Guy & Mae's) Plus I knew a lots of good folks back in Emporia...

South Apopka FL, where I get my ribs on Saturdays.

Glenn said: "Bob, thank you so much for the print. That will be $6 for the rib sandwich. Can I have another one of these prints? For my mom, you know." You learn to become accustomed to this as a documentary photographer.

For those of you not from the south: a rib sandwich is a piece of cheap white bread, 4-5 juicy ribs with bone drizzled with BBQ sauce, and another slice of white bread on the top. Obviously you do not eat it as a sandwich. It is a 4 napkin clean-up afterward.

I'm a (soon-to-be) reformed vegetarian. And those ribs look...fantastic.
I had a cookout with my boys this weekend - and I FORGOT the barbecue sauce!
Lesson learned. And thanks for the picture to remind me of what I was missing.

My BBQ cost runs about $50-$60 a rack -- I make most of my own sauces, the marinade that I have gravitated towards adds a lot to the cost --- I do nothing bulk -- wickers is low end marinade - strictly for the amateurs - my charcoal is handpicked by chopping down amazon rain forest trees, many of the seasonings in the rub fall into the exotic ... The paprika is gently collected by blind peasants who are delivered to the fields in order to maintain complete secrecy- the peppers are grown in columbia and protected by the drug kingpins as my ribs are as valuable to them as the hordes of pure columbian cocaine. The Sicilian mafia provides protection during all phases of cultivation and production and delivery. The spices are all powdered on the thighs of cuban 16 yr old virgin girls.

memphis...do you deliver??? 😀 😉 😀
