Just got a 50mm 'cron DR for my new to me M6. Mounted it, and it is catching right around infinity. The lens is perfectly smooth outside of the body, but once mounted, there is a large amount of friction to go from 10m to infinity. It is looking like the rear ofthe brass flange on the lens hit the meter cell. Am I just out of luck? Payed a mint for the lens, was really hoping to use it.

cheers

No clue about the Dual Range Summicron and the M6 body. My DR works flawlessly on both of my M5 bodies. Good luck!

Guess i should be more specific. Its not hitting the cell itself, but the metal housing around the cell. Just looked on the lens, and sure enough there is a little polished line where the burnish has been rubbed away, assuming this is from the contact with the housing of the cell.

It's well known that the DR Summicron will not mount on certain M6s due to "internal changes of the film chamber". The general rule is to try the DR on your own M6 before you buy it.

You have one of the first M6. In fact, the cell is missplaced and the Summicron DR wants to kiss it.

That seems to be the case, although the serial on the camera shows its from '95'ish. 2064xxx. Either way, spoke with Jerry, who will be correcting it, along with a CLA.

all is good i nthe world again.

Well, the s/n is engraved on the accessory shoe. Too easy to change.
What does the front top plate say, "Leica M6" or "M6" only ?
(Although this is not of any proof either)

Or, just as likely, the "bottom of the parts bin" phenomenon. In some cases, earlier-manufactured components can find their way in to later-produced goods.

Among other places, in an article on the Head Bartender's site....

ok ok, i get the point! 🙂 I read wrong, assumed it was only an issue on old models. And even then, assumed it was a "this won't mount at all" problem. Live and learn. Its going off to get CLA'd and "fixed" for this problem. Only thing i'm out is a couple hundred bucks, and a few weeks. Such is life.

It'll be just that much sweeter when i finally do get to play with it all!

thanks all.
