I've seen a few M60s (the M240 w/ no lcd etc) at the $7K mark now. In like new condition. That is the same price as the M-P.
The M60 was/is $16,300 with 35mm 1.4 lens in the US (on sale from $18K) and $13,600 for the same get up if you buy it from the Leica shop in Vienna, Austria.

These $7K M60s are body only. It seems that selling off the lens separately has really diminished the value , as it came packaged with it, and now there is a big spot missing in the presentation case..

But, if you are looking at a new M-P, would a barely used M60 register for the same price? I like the idea of the M60 as a second body (if I had the $$$), but I really like the LCD panel, live view, and clip on EVF on my M240 even though I have used the latter two very occasionally. It just makes the camera so much more useful to me. And I have lots of film Ms for that 'real' experience.

I think it comes down to whether I could have one or two digital Ms for me.
What say you?

I just can't see spending $7k on a digital camera. I *almost* bought a digital back for my Hasselblad when the price dropped to under $10k but just couldn't do it.

My $800 Olympus E-5 12MP Four Thirds DSLR camera makes stunning 16x20 prints from the files it produces. As did my 5MP Olympus C5060.

I'll stick with my film Leicas.

Theatre of the absurd. In addition to all the other things the camera does not have, it has no strap lugs. Cannot attach a neck strap. Very elegant object, though.

It comes with a half case that has a strap. Sorry, 'carrying protector'

Ah ... the ultimate Leica. No LCD, no strap lugs, no resale value! :)

not surprised imo, the body alone is not worth how much it s going for with its limited and even removed features from the standard M.

no strap lugs, how did leica expect people to walk and shoot with this?

would be curious to see how much a full set M60 go in the used market though or the lens alone.

It's a digital camera, it does nothing but depreciate. It's not like film cameras back in the day, where you could get a decade or more out of a Nikon F, or F2, F3, F4, F5 before they were obsolete. Now these digital cameras are obsolete in a year or two. Don't find it surprising at all.

Interesting to consider at the lower price point... Makes me wonder if I could be comfortable with one in use. I do admire Leica for such a radical move!

I'm actually the seller of one of the m60. If you have questions let me know. It's a gorgeous camera that is very fun to shoot with. The only reason why I'm selling it because I want to fund an SL. I also have a typ 246 so I just need to unload some equipment! And the idea of plummeting prices that's not completely true. The titanium m9 sells for a crazy 20k price. It's hard to say for what the value be in the future.

Yesterday I got to play around with my friends cameras.... One guy bought the M60 as a set (prototype 9 out of 11, matching serial numbers) and my other friend ended up buying an M60 and lens 3 days ago (not matching serial numbers)..... not sure what this says about the used market for these cameras, but they are absolutely beautiful cameras and I am happy that I get to use them...

Was looking on popflash for something else, and I saw he had one for $9400 WITH the 35mm lens. Gone now.

Yes, I've seen those for-sales. Seems to be some kind of Dutch auction going on.:D If anyone interested hangs around long enough I reckon they might pick up a good buy (if not exactly a bargain).

The M60 is a digital camera concept that I like (though I'm not keen on the fancy materials and design) but, even at $7k, it strikes me as an opportunity to flush money down the toilet. The problem with digital cameras as collectibles is not that they become no longer useful (an M8 is still a perfectly fine camera) but that they quickly become yesterday's story for the kind of buyers that are likely to pay a premium for the fancy stuff and the 'latest and greatest'.

Edit: Noticed that one of the sales is now at $6.5k! Also noticed that another M60 (this time an unopened full set at $11k) has popped up on that classifieds.

I'm not a fan of roccoco, or even M3 styling, but digital M bodies have moved beyond merely austere to outright brutal. CNC does not allow those organic curves of old.
