Recently I reckon my m6ttl's has started to sound difference and gotten louder.

When on B the return curtain is noticably louder and 'clack' (almost metallic) sounding then the first which is the normal 'snick'. No shutter bounce and exposure is fine on every speed. At speeds above 1/60 it make the enitre release sound like the 'clack' of the second curtain.

Could someone test theirs on B and see if their second curtain sounds different to the first?

are you dry firing with a lens on or off ? Ms are a bit louder when you fire them without a lens and possibly without film. also my M6TTL is the quietest Leica i own.

both, but its not that its overall loud, its just the second curtain.

regardless of whether its loaded or not on B the second curtain is louder and clack sounding rather then snick of the first

its in use every day and has no operational issue. just thinking prevention better than cure.

on Bulb my TTl makes two different noises on opening and closing as well. so do my other cameras. i think yours is ok.

Really? Spoke to two repair guys here (Bear in mind where I live =Cowboys) and they say the second curtain should be the same 'snick' sound as the first 😕

yikes i hope not for my sake and yours foolproof... anyone know of a site that hosts mp3/m4a so i can attach a recording i made of my shutter opening and closing on Bulb ? they sound similar but not identical.

*ok here we go : BULB

anyone?

would like to get it serviced as a preventative measure if needs be, but dont want to throw monies away if theres no need 😱

All mine have sounded slightly different! why worry yourself if it's working ok? It's a mechanical camera and like everything mechanical, will sound slightly different to another of the same. IMHO fix it when it breaks and I'll bet it wont!

true,

was just thinking prevention better than cure and all that and hadnt noticed it before

In the time i've used and taken apart and repaired M's, I've only had one actual breakage which was a detached shutter curtain. This was only due to the camera having been stored and unused for a long time. I felt the repair was beyond my level and had Will van Manen do it for me. Took 2 hours and was cheap as he just trimmed and re-attached the original curtain. I kept this particular M2 as it has some history and have had no further problems. Incidentally, the only reason I've taken M's apart was to lube and time them.
I seriously wouldn't worry too much. Use it and IF it fails, then get it fixed,
regards john
