It may be possible to re-cell flakey batteries, assuming that they are using off the shelf lithium-ion cells and there's no tricky chip-resetting needed.

The more I read about the M11 we could have a thread called "M11 in 2024?" Congratulations on your M8. Looks beautiful.

worked fine this morning. I am not sure what the issue was but I am sure the battery just sat in the camera. I charged it up last night and its still rocking this morning. I got some fun photos this morning with the m8.2.It may be possible to re-cell flakey batteries, assuming that they are using off the shelf lithium-ion cells and there's no tricky chip-resetting needed.

This camera is exactly what I was hoping it would be: a no pressure snag a photo, throw it over the shoulder with a good lens and just roll with it. Leicas and hasselblads are very expincive. I was alway reluctant taking either my m10p or a 907x on a trip because of the value of the camera. while m8.2 cameras are not cheep it is easier to pay 2000$ than 4500 - 10k when you loose something or it gets stolen. I have some of my photography stuff under some sort of home owners insurance but you never know how that will go.
I need that Ir cut filter to come in. when not shooting black and white I do notice the color shift on blacks. Colors are really really good out of camera though. I am blown away by these shots because this lens is a cheep adapted nikkor 3.5cm f2.5. Both of these I zone focused too!

thank you! I know in anouther couple of years It will be the "old tech" The m10 seems new to me still but its "old tech" The m10 to me was the first no compromise leica digital M.The more I read about the M11 we could have a thread called "M11 in 2024?" Congratulations on your M8. Looks beautiful.
I am dissapointed in some of the things on the m11. As a whole I think if I were to buy a more modern m again I would get a regular m10 or m10r. I dont like the top plate look when they shrunk it down. and I am actually fond of the removable bottom plate on the m10 and back but it makes sense why they removed that.

I've only just looked for the first time at the M11 due to the introduction of the M11-D. By and large, I'm perfectly happy with the M10-M and M10-R and feel absolutely no pressure to upgrade, old tech be darned.
Regards the thing about Leicas and Hasselblads being expensive and worries about traveling with them... sure, of course they are. Always have been. But I buy expensive cameras to use them and I've carried my Leicas and Hasselblads whenever I traveled, presuming I'd want to carry a "real" camera at all.
I salve any financial hesitation by simply buying insurance to cover theft, damage, or any other loss.. After all, they're just cameras and, at least 99% of the time, easily replaceable with another for whatever money they cost. ... And in all these many years of traveling nearly everywhere with an expensive camera, I've never yet had one stolen or lost, and the one time I had one get damaged (by dropping it down a staircase when a child ran into my arm before I had the strap over my head...), the insurance covered the repairs 100%.
I just figure that if I'm going to spend all that money on a camera to make photos with, I ought to carry it to where I want to make photos.

So a little update on the leica M8.2. Its fantastic still. I have shot alot of keeper photos and I think Ill stick with this camera for some time. I have been pairing it most often with one of 4 lenses my nikkor 3.5cm f2.5 adapted with an amadeo, Nikkor 5cm f1.4 S adapted with amadeo, Leica 50mm elm
ar M (2007 version), and my voigtlander 28mm f2 asph V2. Its been pretty epic to use this camera and its what I wanted in that it feels alot like shooting film. you really don't know what the photo will look like till you import them to the comptuer or phone.
these are some of the shots I have gotten in the last month.

Now comes my next thing and the reason why I am posting. I am thinking about getting a leica q, q2 monochrome or a q2. As a companion shooter to the M8.2 I have been enjoying digital and starting to move more twards a digital workflow. and because I can sell a few film cameras that I dont use anymore I was thinking about picking up one of the q cameras. Getting rid of my 500cm I think and a few other things.
Anyways anybody here still use the q? is it worth getting it over the q2? additionally my second question is I have always been facinated by the monochrom cameras. is it worth getting one of you shoot black and white often?

Q is the only from Q séries, which is using common battery. Not a non common rip off.
Check in store, elsewhere first. After looking for few minutes in Q evf, I feel odd for hour or so.
Also olf EVFs are terrible if you are quick panning.
Monochrome is like Delta film, you have fight for good contrast.

I can't talk to the Q from experience; I've been curious about it too, but the Q2 Monochrom or Q3 43 are the models I'd want, not the original. The fixed lens/crop for framing notion works best with the higher resolution sensors of the 2 and 3 series models.
Regards the M Monochrom cameras ... I was intrigued with the introduction of the original M9M, then the M Monochrom typ 246 came out and I wanted one. But they were relatively scarce and I couldn't get one, gave up after a while and went on for different things. Then the M10 Monochrom came out, finally a friend got one and let me use it for a few days. When I called to inquire, my usual Leica dealer had his last one still on the shelf—I bought it immediately. It is my favorite Leica M camera.
(I also have a couple of Hasselblad 500CM cameras. I don't use them too much, but I find it difficult to let go of them. They work so well when I want the best quality photo of a particular type... it's simply hard to let them go. I also have the Hasselblad 907x/CFVII 50c, and the digital back works seamlessly and efficiently on the 500CM, to the point where it is even more difficult to let the 500CM go... The problem is that I've sold out my Hasselblad kit twice before, and it's always more expensive to re-buy the kit. So I think I'm just going to keep it and enjoy it at this point, regardless how little I might use it.

Lovely shots Roastchestnuts. There are a few problems with Leicas and their cost and reputation and mystique. I was first more relaxed with a Leica when I bought the Canadian M4-2 and 50 Summicron, a month or so after my M4 and 50 Summilux were stolen. The new camera was so much lighter and I’d trashed perfection by prising off some European distributors logo on the ‘vulcanite’ so I just grabbed it and threw it around, as much as I’m capable of relaxing with it, and it never got hurt. Ten years ago I went to Europe with the same lens on my Monochrom. The rig looked like a 40 year old set up. No problems.
I have none of my cameras in cases, rarely take a bag and am much more relaxed and the only mark on a camera of mine is a from a local council plantation booby trap trip wire across a footpath sending me onto the road in front of a rubbish truck on our beach holiday. A slight bright mark on the top of the M6. Annoying as for twenty years no mark at all.
Another problem is the intimidation of ‘living up’ to such cameras. That has a good aspect because it makes you live up to it. Shooting and relaxing are the key I guess. It’s just a camera. Impressed by your cautious assumption about your insurance. I’ve paid for years, never claimed. If I ever do I’m sure it will be a drag. I photographed my mother’s jewellery as a teenager. I read recently they want a photograph of the lady owner wearing the earring/necklace. I suppose that is if there is minimal other ownership documentation. I’ve recorded very few serial numbers, none of the recent ones, but a lot of my cameras have had their picture taken….

If you prefer lag free and no blackout as many enjoy with the M, id suggest not going with a Q. Evf blackout for Q3 is 200-300 ms and slower for older models. And the best for Evf lag isthe Q3 at 10-15 m and then slower for older models. Anything >20ms is perceptible to human visionNow comes my next thing and the reason why I am posting. For Leica Q users, the blackout at 300-500 ms can be disruptive in fast-action photography but manageable for slower-paced or static scenes. YMMV

Yeay I have been leaning towards a q2 Monochrom. I have always wanted a monochrom camera since the m9 version. a couple of years back I actually shot a whole year with just trix and tmax. Once you get it to the mindset of what works in black and white and what doesent you start having fun and looking for those scenes. I would love a m10M but I cant justify the price for one right now. Some very nice photos with the M8.2! Good to see you're happy with it.

I have done the SAME thing with hasselblads. I have owned 3 different 500cm kits if you include the current one! Well actually one was a 2000fcm but I didnt like that camera very much and was always worried about electronic failure. I actually had the cfv 50cII and really did not like using it with the 500cm. I hated the crop factor and it was a little more unbalanced than I liked verses the film back. HOWEVER: Using it on the SWC was soooo much fun and it worked fantastic. A true testiment to that biogon as mine is from 1967. Both Photos below were with the SWC and CFV 50CII
Anyways I digress. THat was the motivation that I needed for the Monochrom Q.

Contrast filters are just as on M8/M9 sensors. The only practical reason of Monochrome, no chrominance noise. To get good totals from it is not as easy as even from dull Delta. But if you like low contrast BW, well, nothing but vriations of mid greys, Monochrome it is.I like the Delta film! so thats good. {snipped images}
Three friends of mine have recently acquired Q2 Monochrom cameras. All are happily engaged in learning the cameras and making photographs with them. One of them, who never did B&W photography before, asked me how to learn to see B&W best...
"Put away your color camera. Use only the Q2M for several months, and at least 1000 photos you're happy with. You'll probably find that the 'photos you're happy with' number ascends much more rapidly as the months progress. THEN, take out the color camera and shoot with both side by side, shooting the same subjects with both, for a day or two. Look critically at the photos to understand how they differ, and maybe learn what you like and don't like from either," I told him. He did that, he found he loved portraits done with B&W more than the ones he did with the color camera, and the same for a few other subjects.
Regards the Hasselblads ... well, that subject really should be in another thread. But: I sold my SWC in order to help fund the 907x/CFVII 50c purchase, and bought the latter with the 21mm f/4 lens to regain the SWC FoV option on the smaller format in an all-digital camera.
I find the CFVII 50c back motivates me to use the 500CM much more of the time now, so it's been a plus for me. I tend to use the Distagon 50 instead of the Planar 80 in order to accommodate the smaller format.
Again, let's leave that to another discussion thread.
Keep enjoying the M8.2, and if you get a Q2M, I look forward to your photos with it!

Sometimes I still miss my M8.2. It was only the nuisance of not having coded lenses that made me sell it. It was otherwise trouble-free during the time I had it. I especially liked the 24mm on my M8.2. It gave a 32mm equivalent, which was often just right. 35mm with a 3mm bonus. And my 75mm gave me a 100mm equivalent, very useful when I needed a bit longer reach. I can't remember if I ever used my 90 on it, though.
Congratulations, and I'm sure you will take many fine pictures with it!

I've had the M8 in the past and work with a M9 and a M9M today. Definitely, given the choice, I would go for the M9. The firmware is more stable, the sensor is full frame and there is no IR issue. My M9 has original sensor with some points of corrosion, invisible in 99.99% of the photographs, so I don't mind.
Colors of the JPG strait out of the camera are mind blowing.
