Jaapv,
Please forgive the observation, but in this and previous threads you come across like a British politician when you defend Leica. Regardless of what the 'party' does, you nearly always find a way of defending it. Do you own the other 2%?
Personally I certainly don't want Leica to fail as I want backup if needed for my M8, but why would a successful businessman keep pouring money into a company if it is failing (I'm not suggesting it is failing, just speculating). It may only be a drop in the ocean of his wealth, and he may be on a personal mission to keep the company going but common sense will surely prevail if the camera side of the business s losing money.
This special edition is no more than the wrong dial, shutter release and frame selector bolted on. If limited to 100 as claimed by one seller, Leica know it will sell out quickly to those who collect such things just because they're different.
It's an easy way of making sure their dealers get some turnover and it cost them nothing in tooling, design or taste (in my opinion)
How many previous special editions have sold at (or close to) the standard price and been included in any rebate scheme?
If they do have problems, then reduce the price and sell more. By introducing the rebate, they have wrecked residual values now anyway. In the UK, secondhand M8s are seling for £300 to £400 less than before the rebate came into effect.
