@tah I really like the Silver Efex images, particularly the first one. I use Silver Efex Pro part of the time too.

Rod, it completely transformed ;-)
I like it a lot better now actually, especially with the silky smooth focussing and aperture, it has now.
Looking back at the photos, done before the strip down, I have to say, that the effect of the haze was quite too much …

I am very surprised by the great condition of the glass - all elements, bar the front element look like new !
The front element has cleaning marks and a slightly hazy outer rim, not visible in the pictures (I can maybe restore it to better condition, once, I find a better suited cleaning solution).

The cleaning marks itself are very minor considering the age and overall brassy condition (means, it has been used and not sat behind glass).

Go ahead, shoot a little racing with your M8! Not my preferred choice but not impossible. M8 with Nikkor 105/2.5.

I would love to shoot one of these town course cart races - looks, like one can get sufficiently close, to shoot them with the M instead of hauling DSLR stuff around.

Thanks! Although street courses allow you to get incredibly close to the cars and action there is usually one big problem...fences. On many street courses you can be completely hosed unless you have a photo pass and can shoot through the photo portals in the fences.

Some tracks, like Long Beach, offer slightly pricey photo passes that give you access to stands specifically for photography and also that allow you in the pits. For my M the pits is where it usually gets it's workout.

In North America I find you could use an M at many of the great road courses. You can get insanely close, no fence problem to speak of. I generally never take my Ms to these tracks, however, due to the one thing they don't handle that well....dirt. Huge dust everywhere...not the environment I like to use an unsealed camera in.

Anyway, if you get a chance to hit a street race I highly recommend it! If they ever get back to 1000+ horsepower cars running on city streets it's certainly a sight to behold.

They were building a Formula 1 track in Texas somewhere, last I checked. Not sure what happened with it, though.

Actually I do shot motor sports with the M (regularly visiting the 24h of Le Mans, having omitted heavy DSLR stuff since 2010 ;-)

It is great fun and you really shot differently.
Kent, fences actually only become problematic, when still too far away from your lens and when stopping down a lot.
I try, to bring fast lenses and shoot them fast or go to really slow shutter speeds and pan the shots (you just deal with color casts - no issue, as I do 99% B&W - and loss of contrast).

Dust would be not so nice, bring an old film camera and old less expensive lenses + filters - same fun but different.
Actually 2011 Le Mans was dry and pretty dusty - I looked like a pig after 24 hours but the gear kept ticking with no issues (M8.2 + M9 + Leica glass).

Dirk, nice contrast between the Canon and the Hektor. The Hektor is very atmospheric. I particularly like the shots of the two girls and the man painting the sidewalk.

These were shot at a house concert Saturday night. The singer is Hans York. Lighting was pretty difficult as he was mostly backlit and the light level was low. He was moving quite a bit which made it more difficult.
