@Sug
That is some fantastic B&W conversions! Beautifully made!
@Mingkookoo
I disassembled, cleaned, relubed, adjusted and assembled Hektor myself after acquiring the correct tools and finding the correct procedures to do so.
It was not some kind of hackjob, but a patiently and very relaxing thing to do, to understand Hektor better and learn about stuff.
Hektor now focusses silky smooth again, focusses spot on wide open from 1.5 m to infinity on Leica digital bodies and film after correctly collimating the lens.
The aperture is wonderfully smooth and the glass clean, as it can be after 79 years.
Unfortunately, I found, that my sample, as most others does have inevitable cleaning marks on the front element.
But anyway, I keep Hektor as an exceptionally clean and nice user, rather than sitting on him in a bank safe, waiting for a return.
@Rod
Thanks Rod, I really love this Hektor a lot!
It has it's limitations (specifically with strong backlight, wrapping around the subject, where one should be careful, but otherwise it just has a beautiful rendering for B&W (which I do most of the time).
Here are a few from the same weekend, showing the rendering about the Hektor, that I like:
… missed focus slightly with this panning shot, when a man with a folding bed on his bike was zooming past on this busy crossroad:
… some people say, the old Hektor would not be sharp and therefore dismiss it as a collectors item only - I disagree - you clearly can see that fine detail is there, despite of the pleasing "glow" (this is shot at 1.5m wide open, which made this shot technically all the more impressive for me):
After cleaning the haze, the extreme loss of contrast and "glow" is gone, leaving a very smooth and nice rendering, which I really like.

… well, all 7.3cm Hektors are pretty old, actually. I will surely throw a party next year, when Hektor has his 80th anniversary.@ Menos: Your Hektor is 79 years old !! Did you CLA yourself? Nice shots by the way.

Dirk, nice contrast between the Canon and the Hektor. The Hektor is very atmospheric. I particularly like the shots of the two girls and the man painting the sidewalk.

Thanks Rod, he was really concentrated on his sewing. I like the Hektor for B&W.Dirk, I like that last shot the best.
Thanks Mingkookoo - nooo, I am just playin' ;-)
The church shot was a drive by, racked the lens to infinity and looked, how it behaved after cleaning and setting - I like it. It reaches infinity beautifully wide open.
@Tim
That shoemaker photograph is wonderful!

Just got my M8 last week, haven't had too much time outside of work to shoot a lot. But I'm going to keep it on me for the next few weeks and get used to shooting a digital M!
Very happy with it so far though.

Cool shots JoelW. I see you are a fellow Sydney shooter... What lens are you using on the M8?

Thanks man, I'm currently just using the Voigtlander 35 1.4 from my M6. Saving at the moment for a Leica 28mm though. The 35 isn't too bad with the crop but I generally like something a bit wider anyway

Nice shots everyone
@ rodl : Hexanon 50/1.2
How do you like the Hexanon? I thought you have a Noct F/1 already, you have too many expensive toys

@mingkookoo Yes, I do. I got the Hex before the Noct and have been reluctant to let go of it. I like the IQ of the Noct better but the Hex is sharp wide open and it focuses a lot faster than the Noct. Something will have to go eventually but considering how much the prices have gone up, I'm in no hurry. The Hex is one of the best lenses mechanically that I've put my hands on. It's just a beautiful piece of metal and glass on top of being a good lens.

Thanks for the info rodl !
I've seen a Hex 50/1.2 on ebay a few months ago and it was asking for $2,700. I've seen many picture of the lens itself, it seems to be extremely well crafted.

I've had my m8 for almost a month now and I'm really starting to adjust to the change from shooting with a D700 full-time. I'm waiting on a CV 35/1.2 II to come in and then I'll be completely rangefinder obsessed. Most of these are shot with the Zeiss 25/2.8 but a few are taken with my Juniper-8. I definitely have a lot to learn still...
