m8 warranty question

anybody know if the warranty on an m8 is transferrable? i will certainly contact leica NJ (yeah good luck they chime) tomorrow but i thought maybe some of you folks might have some insight.
looking to purchase a slightly used m8 but the hitcher right now is i am being told there is no warranty as it is non-transferrable. it's a fairly good deal but not EXTRAORDINARY. could just pat all the taxes etc. and buy a demo for about $700 more (with warranty).

My understanding is that it is not transferable in the US. Buy a demo or refurb with a warranty. (I heard that Kurland had some at a good price.) I love my M8, but I would not want to be without a warranty on it.

it's looking that way... the funny thing is the prices sans the warranty seem to be holding steady right about the same price as demo's with 1-2 years...

Hopefully, by the time our warranties are expired, there will be some independent technicians set up to do some repair work, if needed. Don Goldberg, DAG, already is able to do rangefinder adjustment on them (I have heard.)

yeah, well i certainly hope i never have to get more than an rangefinder adjustment... it's kind of a kick in the pants for the used market, the pricing right now on demo's. with kurland selling off demo's with a years warranty for $4100 you'd have to take a big hit to sell your used m8. ouch!

If you have used a rangefinder before, and know that you like the rangefinder style of shooting, you will love the M8 and never want to sell it (at least till the M9 comes along:bang🙂.😀 In actuality, I can't imagine what the M9 will do that I can't do with the M8. The files coming out are spectacular (maybe they will improve noise at high iso, but I can live without it.) 10 mp is enough for me (maybe a true 16 bit-- would be nice). I love the form and size and the M lenses are to die for.

Leica warranties have never been transferable (at least not for the past 30+ years).

I bought my M8 rehabbed at Popflash with a 12-month Leica USA warranty (great deal!). It had substantial problems and was ultimately replaced with a brand new one with a 24-month Leica USA warranty. That one needed an RF adjustment, which was done under warranty.

Bottom line - I would never buy an M8 without some warranty.

i currently own an r-d1s and an m6ttl. i don't have anything BUT rangefinders and really have developed a certain "flow" with them. i am of the belief that the m8 currently surpasses what i can get out of scanned 35mm film so i don't really see what the m9 will do that i'll desperately need.
