M9... Black or Steel Grey?

People who don't know what it is will just think the silver grey is an old camera in very good condition. Sometimes this is helpful. As they both have their good points then I would go with delivery. Which one can I get first? When my supplier phoned me and said I could come in and pickup a black or wait many months for silver grey. I got in the car and went and got the black. In my case the choice was simple.

This is just IMHO, but I think that silver looks very nice when brand new... but i think the black ages much finer.... like a good wine. Not sure how you use your camera, or how you protect, it if at all when in use, but this might be something to consider.

Between black and gray paint my choice was easy: black. Now, if it had been between black paint and chrome, that would have been more problematic.

Black is classic, elegant, stealthy, and downright beautiful. Wears like a good old pair of broken in jeans.

A color would never hold up my decision in owning a camera. Either way you win... you'll have an M9.

I have had my grey M9 for almost 18 months and brass shows on every edges. I don't care, I use it daily, we get riddles too ;)

I went with the black. I like the vulcanite covering on the black better than the "sandpaper" that comes with the grey. Either way, you won't be disappointed. The camera makes wonderful images.

I had a loaner grey one for six weeks, and I must say I like the looks of the camera much better in black, despite most of my other Leicas being silver chrome. And it will be sure to brass, on grey it looks just shabby imo, on black it is fine. I didn't like the camera covering of either. Leica gave me green a-la-carte leather, and although it looks smooth, it is very grippy. Highly recommended. As are the covering kits of Cameraleather.

Steel grey--closest thing to a classic chrome M3. I also chose it because I already have a black M8, which I still use.

Black is the color.

Bought one today (used) and it will ship tomorrow. To be honest I would have loved the painted gray as much as the black. Price and low actuations was a combo I was looking for and felt I found what I wanted from an established Leica user and member.

If I was buying new and had a choice I would choose the black.

So a win/win situation. . . . . . and it also matches my black M8.2!

Life is Grand!

Of course the black M8.2, which comes with a black dot, is the best looking stock one of all. But, that leads to another discussion about red dots versus black dots. Not to mention the choice between black or silver lens. Let's not even think about titanium. Oh my.

Better to just worry about the pictures.

I love my black M6s, but I love my chrome M8. Very retro look. I think it also has its own stealth factor because the average person just thinks its old.

I guess one advantage of gray would be that the camera would stay cooler in hot, sunlit outdoor weather. Those photographing in Nevada in July and August will appreciate that. A cooler sensor means lower noise. That said, I rather like black better.
