M9 in 2010. Target price same as m8.2

I will wait until the M10.2 comes out which will fix all the bugs, and then buy an second hand M10, or possibly a second-hand M9.2

Oh, so you heard too that the shutter noise (because of the bigger FF shutter) is way louder than the the old M8c's and the delayed recocking does not help much because of the whine of the switchmode voltage converter charging the flux capacitor after every shot drown out the rewind anyway ...

;);););););)

I for one would like to toss in something that no one so far has mentioned or bothered to think about. The new S2 system... do we really think that Leica would drop another digital product on the market when they need so badly to make the S2 program successful? So a M9 would be a spoiler while rolling out the S2 system. None of this makes any sense on a marketing level.

For me a M9 is not a product that I need or is better than my M3, M5 or M6's !
I already have a full frame Leica product that ueses all of the Leica lenses and does not need to have software to adapt a lens and no new lenses that come out now like the 18mm outdate my camera's ability to use them to the fullest.

Iam sorry this whole digital world only produces disposable products and if you ever have world shortage of batteries...the all digitals are just paperweights !! No Thanks.

Another very funny argument against digital. I like this forum because such ideas can only be found here :D

I am very much looking forward to a full-frame M9 onto which I can mount all of my lenses.

Hopefully it will perform extraordinarily well at high ISOs, have a 1/250s flash sync speed AND a relatively quiet shutter.

Good move on Leica's part to make it happen!

I think it is a fake rumour, but even if it is not, it will not harm M8.2 sales, as it won't come under a pricepoint of 12.000$......Leica would probably keep producing a 1.33x camera as well.

$12000.00 !!! ... that's the price of around five D700's jaapv!

They couldn't possibly ask that much for a so called M9 ... could they?

More likely it will retail in the EU for less than half that amount.

Oh please.....price target the same as the 8.2? What a joke, I bet that by the time the m9 shows itself that the 8.2 will have increased in price at least once maybe twice and then we can see the price target in line with THAT 8.2 hovering near the 9000 dollar mark right before everyone goes for EVIL type cameras for 6% of the price.

Lets get real here!

$6.000 is alot of money to spend on a camera that will be outdone by something that appears two years later. $9000 for something like that is not possible to market to sell widely. Notice Canon and Nikon have different versions of the same camera at various prices. That is so they can make money on one platform. Leica cannot afford to sell this above $6,000. $7,000 would really hurt, but alot of people could swing it with some sacrifice. $9,000 and up would limit the camera to a few sales, and what would one do when at that price level, we are talking about medium format digital (Pentax is reviving their plans for a 645 Digital, and their lenses are cheap and very good, I have them, I know, some better than the Zeis they put on Hassys and Rolleis).

Basics to business and profit are good marketing and large volume of production with reduction of product price. No company is immune to these basic market facts, not even Leica. There comes a point where the business model fails, and if you price yourself out of a larger market, and you loose money, all you have to do is look in the mirror to see who is at fault. this is economics 101. Even Mercedes Benz knows better. They kept US prices lower even though the Euro was killing the dollar. Why? Because they knew there was a price level that they could sustain here that made sense. If it went up too much, you would turn away customers, even if they do have money. People who have money don't like to get ripped off either!

Thanks for this warning!

I will promptly convert my M8s to hand cranking this afternoon!

Maybe solar tomorrow!

I stuck with the R-D1 so far largely because I don't like the high ISO output of the M8 (the IR filter thing is a drag too). I'd gladly save and shell out for the M9 if its output were similar to the Canon 5D. In terms of price, I know it's apples and oranges, but when I could buy a 5D Mk2, 35L, 50L, and maybe the 85L for probably less or around the price of an M9, it makes me pause.

I'm well past the age where I care to dream and drool over some material object that might appear a year or more from today. If it comes and I'm alive and well by then and economically in a position to buy it, that's soon enough for me to think about it. Hopefully my M8 will still be in working condition by then, and if it is, it will be producing the same satisfying results it does now, which will allow me to sit back and wait for demos and rebates and such, and when people start speculating about the M10 and deciding they'd better sell their M9 before the bottom falls out of the resale prices :D

I just bought myself a Canon 5D (Mark I, not Mark II) refurb. Cost me 1/3 of what it would've if I'd bought it when it first came out. I've been very happy with my 20D, which still makes excellent quality images. I forget who said it but my words to live by "Good things come to those who wait" :D

A full frame M9 might be an upgrade to the M8, M8.2, but it would not make them obsolete.

What ever it is, Leica better get their act together and sell it at a more rasonable price. The M8.2 is already out of reach for all, but the most well healed and a M9 approaching $10,000 would simply be farcical and suicidal for the company.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that the M line up will consist of two bodies. One will be in the tradition and appearance of the analog M line, like the M8.2. The other will follow the path blazed by the S2 and R10.

I'm even willing to go as far as predicting that we may see a lower priced APS sized body with a rangefinder and matching DX-style lens line up.... that is if Leica was smart. ;-)
