I guess it means that a Zeiss dRF cannot be very far off, either.

The best camera is one that still works!
Anyone who doubts that this may happen is forgetting how unlikely the M8 was considered to be right up until the time it exploded into reality!

I was told by a UK specialist Leica dealer that it would be announced within about 2-3 months too with a retail of about 5k GBP. All the usual stuff of FF sensor, 18mp, no need for IR filters, slightly bigger than M8, bla bla. He was absolutely adamant that he heard this from where it matters. I guess we have to wait and see! Could be tosh, but quite a few reputable dealers seem quite confident of this announcement on the M9 and so I would not be surprised if it turns out to be broadly accurate.
Sounds fine apart from the bit about it being bigger than an M8.
I'd be more likely to upgrade if the new camera was MP sized. Surely making, a Leica of all things, bigger is a compromise too far.
Personally I'm not really bothered about FF sensor. But I'll be interested to see how many of the full frame fundamentalists put their hands in their pockets for this.

Put me in the queue...for a demo/refurb M9, after all the bugs are worked out. Maybe even after the M9.2 is on sale. $5K is the upper limit for me.

I don't think it will be too much bigger, if it appears, and that would be no problem for me. As a full frame fundamentalists I have already put my hands in my pocket and bought a D700. That is about as high price wise as I am willing to go especially now that I am retired. I will have to wait for prices to fall or another manufacturer puts out a FF DRF closer to my budget. If/when a M( appears I hope Leica all the success with it but it is not for me based on price alone.

If the rumours are true I can't wait to see all the derision and hand-wringing if the new full-frame M9 is even marginally bigger than the M8. "Not pocketable!" "Enormous!" etc.

If this is true, I'm sorry to say that it is completely out of my price range.
Maybe I'll get one in half a decade or so
The good news is that I recently acquired a very nice 135/4 tele-elmar, and I would expect the resale price of these to increase after a full frame M is announced.
To be honest though, I'm more than happy with my M8 at all but ISO2500.I may or may not get some faster glass to compensate (fastest now is 35'cron ASPH), but that is all I feel I am missing with the M8.

How many is enough?
Now, if every RFF member sends in a dollar-- how many would be available for the winners of the drawing? ;-) Would the drawing have to be held in Vegas?
Regards, John
That's not a bad idea at all, a raffle- but make it like $25, or $50. At $50 a pop, we'd only need about 200 to participate. ( I'm assuming that for the internet publicity value Leica would sell us one for say- 10K.)
The LHSA does it all the time and no, you don't have to be in Vegas.

price out of range for me too... will probably get an m8 and use it till the m9 drops to current m8 prices
but if the raffle pushes through, i'm all for it. it may be the one chance i can get to getting an m9 in the near future...

Very confused
Put me down for a used one when the body price is down to about US$3K -- assuming it turns out to be free of the "issues" that plagued the M8.

the full frame digital M is what i've been waiting for. so they say it's going to be a bit bigger than an M8 ey? ah well, no one cared about that when the M5 came out!... oh... wait...
SolaresLarrave
My M5s need red dots!
I might buy a used or refurbished one myself... only if it's really FF. Heck! I could buy a used one and have Leica refurbish it.

If it is true, I'm quite interested as to how much it is bigger, and why. I've held a M8 in my hands, and the extra thickness really bothered me, even though it must only be a mm or so. Extra width or depth wouldn't annoy me nearly so much, I think.

maybe they're using up surplus M5 bodies?

Having regained consciousness from today's S2 prices, I am now more receptive to the cost of the M9. I call it a fresh perspective.

Please don't use works like "exploded" when referring to M8s. 8-p
I would really like a FF, high-ISO M9, to supplement by M8, but I wouldn't pay $11,000 for it. I could afford it, I just wouldn't do it. That would be twice as much as an M8; I would wish an $11,000 system well, and then when it rolled off the assembly line, I would start selling my Leica glass into an improving market (I hope.)
If it's the same price as a D3x, I'll get it.
ON the other hand, I've been using a Leica 135M on a Panasonic G1 and an Olympus E-P1, and it's a revelation. A Leica Nocti is a 100mm-equiv f1 portrait lens on the micro 4/3 cameras, easy to focus and *very* interesting.

Well my friends,
I just went straight to the official Leica sellers in the Melbourne CBD area this afternoon, and the cool folks at Camera Exchange told me that the Leica M9 will be announced soon and should be available during Xmas time.
I asked them if they were joking, but then one of them told me that one of their very rich customers already pre-ordered the Leica M9, just after she bought the new Leica M Noctilux 50mm f0.95 !!!
They say that the Leica M9 will cost around 12000 AUD, this is just crazy !!!
They still might have been kidding with me, but it seems much more that they were telling me the truth. We'll know soon enough if all this is just a rumor or not...

I only look forward to the m9 for one reason. If it's full frame hopefully it'll cause some people to abandon their film bodies, flooding the market, allowing me to get a second M body for cheap. Seems the main reason for not getting a m8 is the crop factor and poor low light performance. If those two problems are addressed I can't imagine why people wouldn't make the plunge, despite the cost.
Obviously I'd like a full frame camera that would take my ltm/m glass, but I can't merit that price for a hobby, especially when my m2 works fine and produces great images for 1/20th of the price of a m9. Hell, for the estimated cost of the m9 I could pay my union the $3.5k I owe them AND upgrade all my lenses, and get some new shoes, and a new guitar, then book my next trip to Brazil, and have spending cash.
Anyways, here's hoping this drops the prices of the m6's or even m3's..
