I think many will recognize rangefinders as the best tools for street photography (I love slrs as well of course). But I was wondering if there are many out there that really like to shoot street photography with Medium Format?

I am shooting a lot with my pentax 67 and I am finding that as long as I recognize a nice scene and setup and wait for the shot, then I can get satisfying results. But when it comes to quick shooting, obviously the Pentax is slow... the focus throw is incredibly long so it takes some time to get everything ready.

Is the Mamiya 7 faster? How do people find it for street shooting?

One thing I like about the pentax 67 is the 105 f2.4. Mamiya's lenses are fantastic but only go down to f4.

I actually find I am faster with an SLR or even TLR on the street, but that's only because I have much less trigger time on my rangtefinders. I would LOVE to use a Mamiya 7 for street work. I'm envious 🙂 Such a nice lens and the size and weight would make it a joy to carry all day. I have shot with cameras as cumbersome as an RZ67 on the street, so I could see using anything less bulky than that! As far as ease of operation, like most things I bet you will get faster with it as you go through some rolls. Good luck with it!
