Mamiya Six IV (keep or return?)

I just got this camera on the bay. Seller said it's being sold as-is since he doesn't know if it works. But it was listed as used condition (working as intended, etc. Blah blah blah).
I didn't expect a perfect camera, but this is a bit beat up. I opened the box and heard something rattling. I picked up the camera and a small pin fell out. I have no clue what this pin does.
Also, the shutter. When cocked, it doesn't stay cocked. It will if I manually push this lever over, but I don't know if I'm doing something wrong.

Should I just get my money back? I figure it'll cost a bunch to repair it. Maybe more than it's worth.

It was almost scrap prices. Paid about $60 shipped.

But I'm leaning toward a return.

If it is sols " as is", that probably means you're not supposed to return it. But it also then shouldn't mention that it works as intended.

Yeah. I don't know if he listed it in used condition by accident, but either way, it was. And if it just had a sticky shutter and dirty optics, I'd still be happy with the price I paid. But there's that broken brass pin (what the Hell is that to?) And the issue with the shutter cocking lever thing. Unless someone knows a VERY cheap repair option, I should take advantage of the return option.

I just really want a Mamiya Six! It sucks being a cheapskate!

Ok lissen .. he marked <Used> because, duh, someone obviously used it... without paying heed to the fine print (working etc) behind that tag. But because he qualified it by explicitly stating (As-is) and that he didn’t know if it works, that supersedes anything else and you can’t fall back to the fine print. If he also marked (No Returns) you’ve pretty much bought it. If not .. you’re within your rights to return it, noting the broken/loose part which he didn’t mention (and which could’ve occurred in shipping, but that’s his responsibility, not yours.). Because it’s an As-is sale, you’ve accepted that you’re taking a flyer on it, so return shipping is on you. Expect refund for your bid price, and if he also refunds the original shipping, count that a bonus. And go find another 🙂

But you should get your original payment (including original postage)

On eBay there is NO SUCH THING as AS-IS or NO RETURNS.

Read the fine print of your user agreement. Unless it was listed under the specific condition option of “parts” than you have the right as a buyer to return anything for any reason.

eBay is made for buyers, sellers assume most of the risk.

Ok yes, B9 (benign?) is correct and I’ll accept his point — ebay used to allow NoReturn but abolished that choice, and tilted the odds to the buyer.

Me, I always take “dont know if it works” as “unlikely to work” and lower my expectations; some sellers say that to be evasive and some simply have no idea what they found in the attic. I allow myself to be pleasantly surprised when something actually does work 🙂

But this didn’t occur for the OP. Return it and wash your hands.
