March, Nikon RF Month!

The problem with film is the time-lag, shoot, develop, dry and scan! I still have 5 rolls to develop + one to scan. Oh well - extended Rangefinder Month maybe.
This is with a SP and an old, early, chrome 35mm f2.5 Nikkor. It has a focussing helicoild that is stiff enough to look for a pipe-wrench. I am going to clean and re-lube now. Long Overdue.
Pretty good performance for a lens, close to 60 years old. Virtually no flare - stopped down to f22 and no visible diffraction either.
Nikon SP, Nikkor 35mm f2.5 (# 257702), Legacy Pro 400, Pyrocat HD 1:100 for 18 min

Let's slip one under the wire when "they' aren't looking. As Tom says there is an analog lag 😀
130 shots now on the Flickr set for the month, maybe 4 more to load up.

Moody Log Brockholes.
The green moss was lovely and I would have liked a colour shot at the time. Now with this moody look I think BW was the answer.

Just because the March Nikon Rf month is over - does not mean that I will stop using them! Too many Nikon cassettes loaded for that. Probably go back to my usual "mixed" bag of cameras come tomorrow.

No it doesn't, we should keep using our Nikon's RF's all year long. I still
get a hoot when someone looks at my S3 and asks " Nikon made rangefinders"
yes, yes they did.

No one's watching are they? Good, Let's slip in a couple more, hard going this scanning 😀

The 😀 inevitable 😀 log pile

THE END

For March 😉

I envy people who can plan a perfect ending to something like the Nikon Rangefinder Month! This is what needs to be finished - 5 rolls to develop, 4 cameras still loaded - and about 12-13 Nikon cassettes loaded with primarily Fomopan 400.
Oh well, April can absorb those shots - together with smoke M-mount stuff. Lets not wait too long for the next Nikon Rf month though. Summer is coming and I am considering loading 70 Nikon cassettes with Orwo UN 54.
All in all there were 41 rolls shot in March. I had hoped for 50, but the weather conspired against this. Shooting in pouring rain is not fun - even with a Nikonos!

Tom,

this might sound like a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway:
How can a single person shoot 41 rolls of film in a single month?
Is it simply a matter of practice? If so, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm asking, because my average 'output' after a bit more than a year of shooting film is only slightly more than a roll of film per week despite having time, will and money to shoot at least double the amount.

Kind regards,
Philipp

i have a major advantage here. More or less retired from anything useful - married to a avid photographer - who also insists that I take at least 1-2 hour walks every day! Tuukikki has a rule of one digital shot/day - at least and I usually can get a roll in a day. With something like the Rff's "Nikon Month" you just add more time - or several cameras. I never go anywhere without at least one camera, usually two.
I have always been prolific in my shooting - and as now I do it for pleasure - there is a enjoyment factor to it - even if it is pouring down.
It has become a habit by now. Everybody expects me to take a shot or two - and accept it. It does take up a fair bit of time - beats sitting around being idle too.

Tom, thank you.

Sounds like I should simply walk more and ignore the bus stop on the other side of the street ...

Bracketing helps 😉

Ended with 134 in the Flickr set, probably too many posted here 🙄
18 to 20 rolls of assorted film always the wrong speed loaded as I was down to one S3 the other two are off having some TLC. At least I had all the lenses available.
Actually looking forward to loading a Leica M2 tomorrow, in fact two, another little trip is on the cards.

I think I was lucky enough to finish up 3 rolls of film on S3.
It helps that I load my own film and keep shots per roll kind of small (24ish).
I also cheated in that I've shot some of the material before on digital, before coming back with S3.

And like Tom, I try to take a nice long walk every day.

Tom is good for the film manufacturers so keep shooting. 😉

I think i managed to expose 5 rolls in my S3 during the March RF madness.
Having used almost exclusively large format camera for a few years the price for each exposure is a big factor so when i pick up a small format camera i still think the same way.
I carry 2 Rolleiflex now and will be using those for a bit but will get back to the S3 soon enough, it is a nice camera system.

Tom is right, When I worked in New York City and I just got my first
Leica which was a M3, I tooked it to work all week, five days. The film
did pile up like Tom's.

I was brought up shooting Kodachrome and every shot had to count, took years to break that habit. Same on the blad years of 12 Shots now a digital back and the sky is the limit but it doesn't work that way, still frugal.

I rarely bracket though! The M2 sounds like a good idea - already have one sitting in front of me - just have to pick a lens for it. As I have 10-12 rolls of 100 iso already loaded in regular cassettes and plenty of IXMOO's with Double X - I might attempt a similar strategy as with the Nikon's. Black for 400 (actually 320 for XX) and chrome for 100 iso. Probably go back to the 40mm f1.4 Nokton as I have two of these. Two cameras - two lenses - two kinds of film.

A good way is to decide to shoot a roll a day - come hell or high water. It forces you to look differently and different things. I know that not every one can do that with jobs/family etc getting in the way. But, at least once a week is a good rule. Taking the camera along all the time also 'sharpens" the instinct. Not every shot has to count - sometimes one can take a picture just to see what our 3-dimensional world looks like in 2D. Walking is good - as long as nobody is chasing you along. Nothing worse than having impatient people around! When things get boring - I either go somewhere else - or just start shooting in close - things looks different @ 0.9m!
Marburg is quite an interesting city - should be easy to shoot in. Vancouver is only about 130 years old - and pretty boring looking - architecturally speaking.
