March, Nikon RF Month!

Natura 1600, Nikkor-S 5cm F1.4, Nikon SP 2005
I've only just scanned this shot, but since it was taken last month I guess it qualifies for March, Nikon RF Month 😀

Being a charter member of IAPP (international Association of Procrastinating Photographers - created by Chris Livesey) there are still stuff to do with the March Nikon Rangefinder Month. These are cameras loaded and rolls to be developed and/or finished! However, my rule of thumb is that, unless the counter indicates more than 18 frames shot in March - the shots will be part of April 2014 - with no particular Rf Month tag.
This shot on Flickr went to Explore and now has 18000 views - not a big deal, except some of the viewers might get interested in Nikon Rangefinders and join in the next Nikon Rangefinder Month!
The more the merrier!

Dude! I am so there!

Just got back the last of the rolls shot with my first ever Nikon rangefinder, during this my maiden "March Month of Nikon Madness," and I am delighted.

More keepers than I expected. Granted, a lot of klunkers, but still a surprisingly okay output. I believe it is because I find myself shooting more, and with greater enthusiasm, greater joy. Taking pictures is fun again.

But the primary driving force behind this is pretty clear to me: All the great work posted by all the great photographers herein--it has been inspirational.

Cannot wait 'til next year.

Let's see your great images, if they were taken in March it is not to late.

I went out today with two Rolleiflex cameras but I missed my S3. These Nikon RF's does indeed attach somehow. I think the Nikon RF lenses really are what makes the difference.

Anyone wanting to join should be warned that the membership application form is still under development and the voting procedure is a problem because we haven't got around to listing the existing members yet. Should we list them alphabetically by first or second name, (and what about middle names, not all members have one and some that do will not use them) by date of joining, and if so what date format convention. Then we have a faction still arguing about accepting the Gregorian calendar and insisting the Julian was perfectly fine as it was but can see both sides of the argument for change, most of these are Greek as they were the last in 1923 to change over. They still find it hard to accept the loss of 3 leap days every 400 years.

I think I recall a decision, on a narrow disputed majority, on the annual general meeting being held on the last day of February each year as this will occur on the same day of the week in any given year , a different weekday in Gregorian than Julian but nonetheless the same actual date. ( One of the annual doomsdays, go on Google it you know you want to) ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_rule)

As you can see deciding when to submit films previously shot in rangefinder month can be a trivial matter against these weighty matters but fully deserves a full consideration before procedding,...... or not.

That's why we voted Tom publicity officer. We will have a softie design soon as well, well as soon as we decide on a design.

Jonmanjiro, Your image from the subway is very nice. I have come back a few times and I am always attracted to your chosen subject matter but the film also have some beautiful color and grain.

Cheers Jan 🙂 That's actually an above ground train platform at Nakano, Tokyo (photo was taken at night). Regarding the colours and grain, my Coolscan 5000 scanner does all the hard work there. It does a great job of extracting the "information" on the film.

I think I've got the membership application form lying around here some place, but I keep forgetting to fill it in 😀

Chris, I think we should adapt the Aztec Mayan Time Wheel. It does run on a 12000 year cycle - and as we just started a new cycle - it will give us plenty of time to procrastinate!

Tom

I rather fancy a star date system, entirely fictional and not based on any known facts at all.
This from the writers guide for the first series:

"We invented "Stardate" to avoid continually mentioning Star Trek's century (actually, about two hundred years from now), and getting into arguments about whether this or that would have developed by then. Pick any combination of four numbers plus a percentage point, use it as your story's stardate. For example, 1313.5 is twelve o'clock noon of one day and 1314.5 would be noon of the next day. Each percentage point is roughly equivalent to one-tenth of one day. The progression of stardates in your script should remain constant but don't worry about whether or not there is a progression from other scripts. Stardates are a mathematical formula which varies depending on location in the galaxy, velocity of travel, and other factors, can vary widely from episode to episode."

Like so much digital it is entirely fictional and gives a totally spurious impression of accuracy and precision.

For future Nikon Rf projects - lets use the star-date sequence. Will be easy to just add days or even Terra month to it when you are faced with more films and cameras than in a regular month - even a 31 day one.
Today we went to the local Bothanical Garden (Van Dusen) and celebrated Sakura Blossom day - lots of people - all heading for the food court! I indulged in a Japadog Pork sausage with Wasabi Mayo on it. Love cherry blossom festivals - lots to eat. I also took 3 Nikon Rf's along - in the spirit of the celebration. Nikkor 25f4, Nikkor 28f3.5 and the 105f4.0.

Sakura!

Sakura!

Hey Guys,

Yes it is a bit late but, in the spirit of Tom's recent excursion to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Vancouver, here are some shots taken mid-March of the cherry blossoms outside the University of Washington graduate library.

Not a formal festival per se, just a spontaneous gathering out on the U-Dub campus of UV desperate, vitamin D deficient Seattleites all jonesing for that long awaited break from the seemingly interminably grey NW winter. Luckily enough, it proved to be a surprisingly sunny and rain-free weekend.

All taken with the S3 and a 35mm 2.5 skopar--killer lens!

The only camera I regret ever selling was my Nikon S2 with 50mm f1.4 super sharp lens.

Of course, now that I've torn down the darkroom, too, I probably am just dreaming as I would have no way to process the film... Oh well, I still wax poetic thinking about the old gem...

Catching Up.

Catching Up.

More stuff taken this March, my inaugural month with the S3.

These down at Pike Place Market with the 5cm 1.4. The flower vendor shots show some of that "Nikon Glow." Must've been 2.0 or wide open .

A Few More From Pike.

A Few More From Pike.

Sorry for the deluge, but here are a few more from the S3 and 5cm 1.4, Pike Place vendors and a couple of buskers.

A couple of days over the deadline - but I thought I would include it as a sample with the Nikkor 105mm f4.0. It is lightweight three element lens - strangely tapered barrel with a small front element ( 34.5 filter size) You rarely see samples of shots taken with this lens - so thats my excuse.
