"Mass Production" M60 style M coming on March 10th?

SWEET and I am going to figure out a way to get one. Will keep both my MM and my M 262 and maybe sell the M-E to help finance it.

I'm sticking with my M2, but I like the concept. If I shot digital (and had the money), I would definitely consider this. As mentioned above, a monochrome variant would be interesting as well.

As for folks not understanding the appeal, sometimes there are certain intangibles, whether gimmicky or not, that, while not seemingly logical, comport well with one's personal preference, rendering debate rather moot.

I'm sure Leica will sell as many as they build. This doesn't necessarily mean the same thing as in the conventional business sense. :)

I just wish they could build a digital M that is the same size as the film M. They did it with the Q...

so why make it harder ?

I get it that Leica is also selling a theme and some people will buy whatever they make just to make a statement or adopt a fashion - not that there aren't perhaps good practical reasons for this new piece of equipment.

It's just not for me.

Right, it's just not for you... and its not making the act of finding content and framing it any harder. And does there need to be a practical reason or can it just be a personal preference?

I'd be happy to pay for that extra "feature", yet...

Sad to see it's as heavy and as fat as the Typ 240. Why can't they just get it right once and for all?

I cannot find the info online, but one would hope the camera was meterless or is the photographer stuck with center-weighted metering and no option to switch it off. That would not jive too well with the LCD-free design.

"No LCD screen leads to more freedom for creative photography."

Marketing mumbo Jumbo... Such bull its not even funny... You people actually believe this the they need to reconsider why they picked up photography in the first place..

Honestly no...they call it a function button. I believe you... I'm just saying that the manual doesn't talk about formatting the memory card in camera. It makes sense.

Well, flicking through the manual for the M-D it seems like you have to format the SD card before inserting it into the camera... :bang:

Or people are allowed to think whatever they want to... if someone likes a camera without an LCD, then there's nothing wrong with that. Of course it is marketing, but some people have been waiting for this. if it helps someone just go out and focus on framing / content, then cool. Me? nope... I'll take an LCD camera.

With a sensor providing as much dynamic range as color negative film, the lack of LCD does not seem much of a problem; i.e. just like using a film M - seems to me that is exactly what they are going for.
But not sure the M.240 sensor gets there.
The MkII version of the M-D in say 3 years might replace my M9.

People used slide film without an LCD for many years...

Yes, and you should see some of mine! That's what bracketing was invented for;)

More seriously, I had the same thought, partly because the XP2 sensor and iso calibration seems to be 'getting there' in terms of exposure resilience. I'm not sure the current Leica sensor is there yet.

Have to admit it looks great, though I'm more pleased the MP has reappeared and may still be available.
