Saturday was an interesting day. First went to visit a new boutique set up by a friend who has returned from California who is back in NYC. The shop is on Sullivan Street below Houston.
A comment was repeated which I have heard before, that "Maggie" and I should promote ourselves as a couple to get gigs. These are young people saying this.
Later we had a late lunch with Maggie's first agent who got squeezed out from "Elite" in London. She also said we should promote ourselves as a couple for gigs. I was asked if I would want to walk the runway for a particular brand. Let's see if anything happens...
So we talked for several hours and I learned lots of insider smut. Seems like Maggie's Literary Agent is like a machine they process you into. Not the best for your career necessarily. Understand that Maggie has an agent (talent) and the literary agent is separate.
So it is possible I could get boot strapped by getting an agent. Vanessa will be back in NYC in 2-3 weeks. After leaving "Elite" London she has been filling out her stable of artists. Vanessa attended a celeb wedding. Guests could not photograph because Vogue has an exclusive that will be published this summer. Three planes were chartered for the guests to fly to Mer-ICK-Kess. BTW I'm a fan of this man.
The Wall Street Journal had an excellent article on "Late Bloomers" in the Weekend Edition that explained a lot as far as brain development, mental capacity and skill development that broke down the notion of the young success stories being the exception and not the norm; it stripped away the myth of age-ism and reframed this rebirth I'm undertaking.
Then Friday I saw a place in Beacon (lower Hudson Valley about 1 1/2 hours north of NYC) that I would want to buy. Pretty much is a condo that formally was a school that has 30 foot ceilings, one bedroom, two bath with Hudson River views, and exposed timber frame beams. 2018 Taxes were only about $5.5K and it is 1100 square feet. No garage, but I would get two parking spaces. Unlike a house I'll have a sewer connection, so that promotes a darkroom.
Was a relief that I could afford a dream home. Only thing I need to know is the maintenance costs.
Now that Maggie is retiring, I don't want to waste the next 4 years working a day-job anymore. I figure I only have about a year and a half to two years more to give. That means sometime when I'm 63 no day-job, so I better have some other gig happening. I don't think it will take 5 years like Maggie, because we already are insiders.

I checked out the brand mentioned by Venessa and pretty much it is London urban street wear. I can actually see how I fit in.
I have the ethnic look and perhaps the tough guy from Brooklyn vibe that stands out in a crowd.
Pretty much my style. Really cool that I can wear clothes designed for young people when I'm not. I can pull it off because of my boyish build.
Seems like the brand also likes models with crazy hair: long on one model; and braids on another. I can do both.

Hey does anyone happen to have a LARGE format film or paper holder that can be used for exposures? I mean large format, not the 4x5 or 5x7 formats.
I'm hoping to find an 11x17 or 16x20 holder that I can load with paper then use in my super secret art/photo/grad school project.
Aside from that, does anyone know how to build a ULF film or paper holder? I figure I could do it with some clamps and sandwiching wood. My only must is that it has to have a dark slide.
I wish I could get liquid light to behave. I have a quart of that stuff but can never get development right. Or maybe never get exposure right. Who knows. Every one of my experiments with it have failed.
EDIT: I just realized what I need is a large format X-ray film holder. Large, like 1:1 scale chest X-ray holder. Something bigger than 8x10. I wonder if the online-auction-place-that-sucks-valuable-time-away-from-life has such a thing.
Thanks all.

Yesterday a video was released by Kate ***** that utilized a green-screen that has "Maggie" performing around and on an oversized handbag as if a jungle gym. Very high production value.
I think Friday I will develop film.

Cal,
Ive always wondered why Lennon asked for a humbucker pickup on his Gibson, but then the Tech suggested th Charlie Christian Pickup.
As for the Hendrix/Zappa Strat, Ive seen some of the online descriptions of its different restorations.
I hope youve seen this youtube by Dweezil Zappa:

Bernard,
This guitar graced the cover of "Guitar Player in the mid 70's. Back then it had a silver brushed aluminum pickguard.

Robert,
I'm very immature. LOL.
Anyways I'm also tired of working my day-job. Now "Maggie" feels a bit like her life is on hold waiting for me. I don't think waiting 4 more years to full retirement age is worth it. Perhaps I have it in me to work 1 1/2 to two years more.
I'll take the money and run.

It’s not your fault she went for the younger man back 20 years ago.

Im wondering if Dweezil is tweaking the restoration because it failed to to reach auction expectations about 15 years ago.

John,
Twenty years of living in sin (not married). LOL.
In a ways I'm kinda tired of working/coping with working my day job. Four years of my life is a long time, but I hope to cut that time in half and leave early.
You know me: a lazy slacker.
I'm really satisfied with my photography. I feel rewarded even though I make little money through photography. Not sure I want to be a hoe and corrupt my art by putting pressure on it by needing income.
Call me a hoe, but I'd rather do other things for money, even things that I don't care about like walking a runway in London; or being a one man ontourage for a celeb fashion blogger.
Call me anti-social, but I would rather stay in my studio and be alone making prints listening to music and going on long bike rides exploring the world everyday.

Bernard,
If my dad was Frank Zappa and I owned that guitar it probably would be the last thing I would sell.

Bernard,
I think the strat shot with the chrome guard most closely replicates the mid seventies Guitar Player cover.
The three LED's and fourth added knob are for a pre-amp. If you ever heard the stories of seeing Frank Zappa playing at the Palladium on Halloween you would know that Frank would ask some one in the audience to run out and get him a ham sandwich and hand them $20.00.
I can imagine Frank doing a solo using just hammer-ons and pull-offs using just his left hand while playing and eating a ham sandwich on stage.
The Tortoise guard and reversed headstock on the other iteration I think was a Dweezil rendition. To me it does not represent Frank's personality.
Also as I remember from the Guitar Player article/interview Frank said that a Hendrix roadie gifted the guitar to Frank. It suffered from a broken neck. I also had thought that this was the guitar that was burned at the Monteray Pop Festival. In the film the neck is broken.
Somehow the guitar being burned twice makes no sense if Hendrix only owned two sunburst strats.
In the interview Frank revealed that he had the broken strat as a trophy displayed on his fireplace mantel for a long time before he had it made playable with a new neck.

I did a mini film vacation and took Thursday and Friday off from work to dedicate to photography. Thursday I walked into the South Bronx via Randall's Island to shoot; and Friday I developed the films along with others in the fridge.
So the idea here was to see what I could do with Ilford DDX. I had Delta 400, Tri-X and HP5 to shoot that all could be developed in the same tank for 8 miunutes 1+4 along with Delta 3200. I decided to cut the inversions to only 3 per minute and extend development a minute to get a mild compensating effect.
DDX is an active developer that can be used for pushing like Microphen, but is a liquid for convenience. I like active developers because they have shorter times that encourage smaller grain. I find minimizing aggitation can contribute to fine grain also and the bonus is a compensating effect (contrast compression) where I dial in development/exposure for mids.
Remind me not to waste money or time with Delta 3200. Tri-X at 400 ISO with DDX 1+4 for 9 minutes with 3 inversions per minute was the best. Looks kinda ideal. The HP5 and Delta 400 I would add exposure and shoot the next rolls at 320 ISO for a slight "pull." Would be great to have all three films look great and be able to develop in a mixed tank.
The next tank I'll add in FP4 at 50 ISO which likely could work in my "mixed tank."
My secret for Kodak 5222 with DDX 1+4 is 10 minutes with three inversions per minute at 500 ISO. The film looks wonderful and is magical. I have to do the "pull" and will shoot 5222 at 200 ISO and use DDX 1+14. The intention is to exclusively utilize 5222 for mucho 135. I'll be shooting this film like practicing a deadly Kung-Fu move.
Looks like Tri-X, Delta 400, HP5 and FP4 will be my go to 120 films. Meanwhile I will be cleaning out my fridge of all these other films and then I'll restock and load up the truck.

Thursday Night I took out my F3P rigged with my Noct-Nikkor to do some night shooting. "Maggie" had an event and I was going to take the subway to Canal with her and walk home.
On the elevator on the way out is another tenant from my building that I know from the gym, but I find out that he is a film maker and get invited to a screening that will happen at 7:30 PM. I'm added to the guest list, and I still get a chance to do some shooting.
"Photograph" is a feature film that was shot in India that was selected for the Sundance Film Festival. My friend is the writer/director. I must say there were mucho beautiful bokeh shots that were enhanced by the bright lighting. Remind me to buy a neutral density filter to exploit this look.
In my building are only 40 units, but a make-up artist, Mike the skinny hipster (a fashion photog) are additional 'creatives" that live in my building. Pretty cool.
Today I have to leave work early because Maggie has an event at the Apple Store in Williamsburg. She will be presenting how she finds places to shoot as a presentation. Pretty much is about pimping up the Iphone 10.

Had some free morning time and decided to develop my nice sunday roll. I did the best "Monday" f*up ever. Poured the fixer first. Thank god it was just a single 120, as I don't tend to do volumes.Remind me not to waste money or time with Delta 3200. Tri-X at 400 ISO with DDX 1+4 for 9 minutes with 3 inversions per minute was the best. Looks kinda ideal. Noticed that 40s after pouring, went emergency mode and emptied the fixer, rinsing and throwing developer in. Film looks clear with a pinkish cast and very very faint images. Well now I know something.:bang:
Liquid developer is just great. HC110 is very cheap and convenient.
I'm running low on film and will do another order soon, fancied trying other slower films such as the Deltas, for summer. llford film is very well priced in Europe so I tend towards it, and HP5 is just a great staple. I printed some older negs from Acros and that film, wow, grain so fine I had troubles in the grain focuser.
Acros/TMY have this spectral response that is supposed to act like a mild yellow filter built in. Might throw a couple rolls of TMY in.
Probably I won't really order much Delta 100 as in 6x9 ISO 400 works just great and I tend to use a #12 Yellow during sunny days with HP5, shooting at 160 (320 w/o filter) to get that slight margin. Haven't tried pushing yet, as now days are very long here.
